Prediction: Meteor sighting coming by tomorrow night
ok, last week the spidey senses were tingling and i felt a meteor sighting coming but it didn´t post it. about 2 days later - only several hours after my prediction was to expire the way i felt it, a meteor was indeed sighted.

right now, sunday at 3:30 pm est i get a feeling of this again. not a particularly strong feeling like last week, but a sense of this happening nonetheless. so this thread is part prediction and part experiment to see if i´m tuned into my feelings. i often am tuned in, but sometimes i force the feeling.

if a report about meteors comes in by tuesday morning, my prediction will be correct, though meteor sightings are becoming commonplace these day. if one doesn´t come in by then, you can call me a woo woo, but in reality only a false prediction will have been made.

Meteors hit the atmosphere all the time. How big of a meteorite are you predicting.

Re: Prediction: Meteor sighting coming by tomorrow night
yes thousands are said to burn up in the atmosphere every day. but sightings are rare given the number of dust-sized particles that hit the atmosphere. i´m predicting one big enough to catch your eye, so probably it will be as big as a suitcase, or perhaps even larger. the one i feel coming will not be all that spectacular but will be spectacular enough to be seen by someone who will then report it. i´m thinking west coast but possibly around iowa

so just a regular run of the mill meteor with a chance of it being a little bigger than ´normal´

hmm. if not west coast not iowa either. iowa is too far east. somewhere just west of the rockies. alaska, bc, alberta and western mexico fall on the ´west coast´ in this scenario too.

There can´t be much news this weekend if everyone who saw a meteor is reporting here. Meteors are common place. They are seen every night.

Re: Prediction: Meteor sighting coming by tomorrow night
sure shooting stars are seen every night, but not meteors

i´m predicting a meteor sighting, one that makes people report it to the police or astronomical socities, which cause it in turn to be reported in the media

A shooting star is a meteor. I think you´re thinking of a fireball. They´re the really spectacular ones startle people.

If a meteor or fireball actually hits the ground, it´s a meteorite.
