Poetry as Insurgent Art [I am signaling you through the flames]
by Lawrence Ferlinghetti

"I am signaling you through the flames.

The North Pole is not where it used to be.

Manifest Destiny is no longer manifest.

Civilization self-destructs.

Nemesis is knocking at the door.

What is the use of poetry?

The state of the world calls out for poetry to save it."

We'll pulp down all those paper pieces til then,
that time; then,
then with all those writings fluid we’ll add petals,
we’ll add petals n' coloured dye.

A silk window framed full and dripping.
Press out firmer crisp sheets to curl,to fold,
to lay between.

Be Lost in the Call: Rumi

Lord, said David, since you do not need us,
why did you create these two worlds?

Reality replied: O prisoner of time,
I was a secret treasure of kindness and generosity,
and I wished this treasure to be known,
so I created a mirror: its shining face, the heart;
its darkened back, the world;
The back would please you if you've never seen the face.

Has anyone ever produced a mirror out of mud and straw?
Yet clean away the mud and straw,
and a mirror might be revealed.

Until the juice ferments a while in the cask,
it isn't wine. If you wish your heart to be bright,
you must do a little work.

My King addressed the soul of my flesh:
You return just as you left.
Where are the traces of my gifts?

We know that alchemy transforms copper into gold.
This Sun doesn't want a crown or robe from God's grace.
He is a hat to a hundred bald men,
a covering for ten who were naked.

Jesus sat humbly on the back of an ass, my child!
How could a zephyr ride an ass?
Spirit, find your way, in seeking lowness like a stream.
Reason, tread the path of selflessness into eternity.

Remember God so much that you are forgotten.
Let the caller and the called disappear;
be lost in the Call.

Haylewwwww, the moods up, the moon is up, and I'm up and about to log off and grab and read before morning.. stuff, there is always stuff.

Shame you have a slow connection, nothing really relates in some posts, other times there are things I pluck out that tickle me some way or another.

Anyway, you have a wonderful week, happy hump day.

Swans

Upon dark glassy settled waters,
beneath skies eyes,
Swans sing;
beating their wings against the stillness of air,
they write pages of white,
with their less than beautiful songs
they write deep rippling pages to white,

reflections lost to the shattered mirror beneath their breasts.

Shifting twilight walks across settling walls
its weighty dampened cloak aiding boot stomp drawls
random drum thumps
silencing into sleepy thoughts
sinking into tired hands and weak arms
beneath a warm ceiling, before a crackling fire.

Pattering lullaby overhead, chicken soup, before bed.

Suns fingers catch the raven,
luminous purple in my eyes,
tinsel, caught in a vortex created off smooth lines.
Deep shimmering warmth coos softly softly
lifts the mind skyward;
and god is flicking matches to magnesium clouds
they burn like tissue paper in descending light.

Wade in the water.
Wade in the water, children.
Wade in the water.
God's gonna trouble the water.

Well, who are these children all dressed in red?
God's a-gonna trouble the water
Must be the children that Moses led
God's a-gonna trouble the water.

Chorus

Who's that young girl dressed in white
Wade in the Water
Must be the Children of Israelites
God's gonna trouble the Water.

Chorus

Jordan's water is chilly and cold.
God's gonna trouble the water.
It chills the body, but not the soul.
God's gonna trouble the water.

Chorus

If you get there before I do.
God's gonna trouble the water.
Tell all of my friends I'm coming too.
God's gonna trouble the water.

Chorus

Re: The Nature of Daylight
The Lark
by Mary Oliver

And I have seen,
at dawn,
the lark
spin out of the long grass
and into the pink air -
its wings,
which are neither wide
nor overstrong,
fluttering -
the pectorals
ploughing and flashing
for nothing but altitude -
and the song
bursting
all the while
from the red throat.
And then he descends,
and is sorry.
His little head hangs
and he pants for breath
for a few moments
among the hoops of the grass,
which are crisp and dry,
where most of his living is done -
and then something summons him again
and up he goes,
his shoulders working,
his whole body almost collapsing and floating
to the edges of the world.
We are reconciled, I think,
to too much.
Better to be a bird, like this one -
an ornament of the eternal.
As he came down once, to the nest of the grass,
“Squander the day, but save the soul,”
I heard him say.

Aimee Allen:
Calling The Maker

Get my money back, pay my bail
Put me baby in the county jail
Do my time, Lord, and I won't tell
Everybody, everybody going to hell

Pick back my fat, skin my bones
Thirty-two teeth crack throwing stones
Call on Jesus, bring us home
I ain't done nothing but love
I ain't done nothing but... hey love

Chorus:
All hands are calling the maker
Dirty with the salt from the undertaker
Damn, I hear John the Revalator
Mama's in the kitchen dancing and singing

All hands are calling the maker
Dirty with the salt from the undertaker
Damn, I hear John the Revalator
Mama's in the kitchen dancing and singing

Get my money back, I pay my bail
Put me baby, put me baby in the county jail
Do my time, Lord, and I won't tell
On everybody going to hell
Pick back my fat, skin my bones
Your teeth crack throwing stones
Call on Jesus, bring us home
I ain't done nothin' but love
I ain't done nothin' but love

Chorus

Yeah, I hear him come down the hall
With a tip tap, high clap, voodoo doll
Congo, bongo, blood lust song
White witch playing on a tree trunk gong
It's a boom clack, boom clack on my door
Click the key before's there more

I ain't done nothing but... hey love

I would dial your ten digits

above, or below, the grass, the ground
the empty sound of a molten core
melting, heating… churning."
