Good for the cop. I had some weirdo census worker that would ring my doorbell twice, then open my storm door and knock twice. I never answered, and never will, but I did finally go lock the glass storm door to interruct the little routine and amuse myself. Whoever it was finally stopped coming.

Re: Cop At Home Has Persistent Census Worker Arrested
hidingThe last time the census was used like this was when they rounded up the japs into internment capms.Kind of makes you wonder their true intentions are in light of everything that has been goin on.

That is a lie. Why do you repeat lies like that.

In California, the messages to the Japanese about Roosevelt's Presidential order to move them to safety camps were sent out based upon phone book listings.

First of all, pull your head out of your ass sheep! The Consitution states that you are only required to tell the census a head-count in the home. Furthermore, If the census wants to know the info they ask and she should write-down the answers themselves on a form. Afterall, they are the ones that want to know the info. They are supposed to write it in for you if they show-up at the door!

Gee, maybe the people who are standing up to these census takers actually understand the law, their true citizenship status, and the fact that the feds don't have any jurisdiction in the States. Do you not get it? I would think that more people on this forum would be aware of these issues. Do some research on the federal zone to bring yourself up to speed. Are you as US citizen? Do you know the definition of US citizen? You should because there are 3 definitions of United States. If you are unaware of this simple truth you need to do some research.

what do you mean by no jurisdiction in the States?

The Secretary of the Treasury can only claim exclusive jurisdiction over this federal zone and citizens of this zone. In particular, the federal enclaves within the 50 States can only come under the exclusive jurisdiction of Congress if they consist of land which has been properly "ceded" to Congress by the act of a State Legislature. A good example of a federal enclave is a "ceded" military base. The authority to exercise exclusive legislative jurisdiction over the District of Columbia and the federal enclaves originates in Article 1, Section 8, Clause 17 of the U.S. Constitution. By virtue of the exclusive authority that is vested in Congress by this clause, Congress shall have the power:

To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the Acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of the Government of the United States2, and to exercise like Authority over all Places purchased by the Consent of the Legislature of the State in which the Same shall be, for the Erection of Forts, Magazines, Arsenals, dock-Yards, and other needful Buildings;

I think I see what you are getting at. Congress has police powers in limited areas like Federal Land, Military Bases, Indian Reservations and DC. I don't think this Census is about Congress's police power. I think the census is derived from article 1 section 2 of the Constitution. This door to door stuff probably falls under the Necessary and Proper clause. Census workers are a necessary and proper means by which to make sure Article 2 Section 1 requirements are met. I don't think the Census workers are asked to do anything that infringes on anyone's property or other Constitutional rights. To my knowledge, they have to leave when asked to leave. Some individual census workers might not leave when asked to, but they are probably going beyond the scope of what they were told to do. I guess you could say the Census might infringe on a right to privacy because you are required to tell how many adults are in your household. I'm not sure if that's a genuine privacy interest though. Plus, no first amendment rights are absolute...they can be limited if the government shows a compelling need to limit them.

I fall under a common law society, and so should our police officers. after all they are PEACE officers given duties that are suppose to protect our individual rights. Who is to say that the federal government is to impose there policies on any person of the free land. the census department is a serious joke and has no standing in any case. if someone doesnt want you on there property then GET THE FUCK OFF>>>... plain in simple. Example: would you want a random stranger coming to your door asking you how many people live in your home??? why does it matter. If i was the census worker id be afraid of getting shot for trespassing on private property.. im just about love, life and the pursuit of happiness.

there is nothing in the constitution about telling any foriegn state or government about your own soveriegn. No state or local /federal government shall interpret the law nor should they and arent allowed to enforce policies that aren't written law. more to the point. the fact still remains that your independence has been compromised if you seriously think a cop arresting someone for not leaving him alone. the guy from the census should have been more inclined to leave this poor bastard alone especially if he knows that the man he is bothering is a peace officer.

I agree on separation of church and state.

If my memory serves me right, regarding the bible and census takers.......Didn`t the Jewish Joseph and Mary with the GOD child, Jesus, skip off to Egypt to avoid the census count in order to avoid the census of King Herod the Great.

If it is good enough for Joseph and Mary with their GOD child, Jesus.......it`s good enough for me.

.........just sayin.

:beacht9: Oh yes you do. Good on the cop I say.

US citizens are Constitutionally required to report the number of adults at their address.

That Cop should have taken the form, as Constitutionally required, filled out the number of adults at that address as Constitutionally required (no other information is Constitutionally required), and sent it in as bare as possible.

That's just it...the paper census wanted MORE than the Constitutional requirements. Therefore, because of such an intrusion upon our privacy and rights, IMHO, the entire form was null and void.

Ask me what is Constitutionally valid to ask, and no more...if I decide to give our MORE information of MY OWN FREE WILL, then so be it. But until I invited someone into my life and feel I want to share such private information, then they have NO RIGHT seeking such information.

I don't understand your reasoning. The form was null and void because they asked questions that you didnt have to answer? People get forms all the time with more than they are required to answer. They generally put N/A or leave spaces blank. How does it harm you any to answer only whats required and leave the rest blank?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1028139

Apparently you didn't get the LONG form. On it, it states it MUST be filled out in it's entirety, nothing left blank. So, I understood that to mean that you couldn't simply put an N/A in there. To not fill it out in it's entirety, then sign a sworn statement saying all information is true to your knowledge, and perjuring oneself...nah, no thanks.

The harm would have been if they decided to use me as an example by charging me with some stupid "law" for not filling the form out entirely. Why do they need to know our income? Heck, they can just pull up our tax papers to find that out...but then they have to deal with their own behemoth IRS that's power trippin' themselves. If they want to know if I suffer from some disease or disorder, they can pull up my medical records...I'm not going to give them that information so it can be used against me at a future date. If I'm unemployed, they can cross reference with the Dept of Labor. Etc.

The following taken from the JVL info on the Hollerith machine.

All governments gather information about their citizens. The Nazi regime, however, used such information to track political opponents, enforce racial policies, and, ultimately, implement mass murder. As early as 1934, various government bureaus began to compile card catalogs identifying political and racial enemies of the regime, such as Freemasons, Jews, Sinti and Roma (Gypsies), and "genetically diseased" persons. The 1939 census became the basis for a national register of Jews. That year, German census forms for the first time included explicitly racial categories. Jews were identified not only by religious affiliation, but by race as well. Within three years, the completed national register of Jews and some Jewish Mischlinge ("mixed breeds") was to become one of the sources for Nazi deportation lists. Most of those deported perished in the Holocaust.

During the 1930s and 1940s, Hollerith machines were the best data processing devices available. The Nazi regime employed thousands of people in 1933 to 1939 to record national census data onto Hollerith punch cards. The SS used the Hollerith machines during the war to monitor the large numbers of prisoners shipped in and out of concentration camps.

The young man looked a bit incredulous and sputtered, "But that was the NAZIS!" so I showed him this:

Confirmed: The U.S. Census Bureau Gave Up Names of Japanese-Americans in WW II
Government documents show that the agency handed over names and addresses to the Secret Service

By JR Minkel

Despite decades of denials, government records confirm that the U.S. Census Bureau provided the U.S. Secret Service with names and addresses of Japanese-Americans during World War II.

The Census Bureau surveys the population every decade with detailed questionnaires but is barred by law from revealing data that could be linked to specific individuals. The Second War Powers Act of 1942 temporarily repealed that protection to assist in the roundup of Japanese-Americans for imprisonment in internment camps in California and six other states during the war. The Bureau previously has acknowledged that it provided neighborhood information on Japanese-Americans for that purpose, but it has maintained that it never provided "microdata," meaning names and specific information about them, to other agencies.

A new study of U.S. Department of Commerce documents now shows that the Census Bureau complied with an August 4, 1943, request by Treasury Secretary Henry Morgenthau for the names and locations of all people of Japanese ancestry in the Washington, D.C., area, according to historian Margo Anderson of the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and statistician William Seltzer of Fordham University in New York City. The records, however, do not indicate that the Bureau was asked for or divulged such information for Japanese-Americans in other parts of the country.

Anderson and Seltzer discovered in 2000 that the Census Bureau released block-by-block data during WW II that alerted officials to neighborhoods in California, Arizona, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Idaho and Arkansas where Japanese-Americans were living. "We had suggestive but not very conclusive evidence that they had also provided microdata for surveillance," Anderson says.

The Census Bureau had no records of such action, so the researchers turned to the records of the chief clerk of the Commerce Department, which received and had the authority to authorize interagency requests for census data under the Second War Powers Act. Anderson and Seltzer discovered copies of a memo from the secretary of the treasury (of which the Secret Service is part) to the secretary of commerce (who oversees the Census Bureau) requesting the data, and memos documenting that the Bureau had provided it

Re: Cop At Home Has Persistent Census Worker Arrested
I had three different census workers visit. The first time it was legit I informed the guy we already submitted the papers and that wasn't good enough I suppose so I had to quickly in the burning hot sun answer the mundane who what where why bullshit. The worker then asked about the properties surrounding ours I informed the guy and he looked like he noted it and left. Never saw a gps device.

Second visit, I'm out cutting the front yard and vehicle stops I notice instantly the census worker routine, I let go of the mower shutting it down proceed to the fence and answer the same damn questions again about the neighbors, this time I inform this guy sternly about the properties.

Third visit, I'm out cutting the front yard once again two weeks later and yet again vehicle stops, census worker proceeds to fence trying to speak, I make a couple passes with the mower like I could care less. I then stopped next to the guy and I said " what you need I already filled out the damn forms and told you guys twice about the properties next to ours and across the street"
He says " really? " I'm like "yeah fucking really"
He's like " well if you could tell me one more time ill make sure its recorded this time" I'm like "I hope fucking so this shit's getting old the third time telling you the same damn thing" He apologized several times over and was saying something I'm sure was another apology after I again told him about the four properties in question and cranked my mower and took off. He obviously got the picture and wrote shit down. Haven't been bothered since.

Here's my weird story:

I have a rural P.O. box, and never even received the Census Form at all. The Census never put peoples' P.O. Box numbers in the address; hence, the post office returned all those census forms to the Census Bureau.

After I learned of this, I called the Census Bureau, spoke to a rep there, answered the questions. However, she told me I might still see a census worker show up at my door....

Two weeks later, a census guy shows up at my door. I answered his questions for 5 minutes. He was friendly enough, professional, didn't ask weirdo questions, just took our count (two people, LOL).

Now get this:

Yesterday, I had a phone mail message from...the Census! They are doing "Operation Clarify" (ROFLMAO)...gave me a Case # and told me to call them back at 1-866-851-2010, to answer more questions "for clarification".

Hey, I answered them TWO times already. If they can't count up to "2"...then screw 'em.

Luckily, I have a phone app that let's me put their phone number in (which I did), and every time these jerks call, it is re-routed to a "busy signal". I will never even hear their stupid phone calls to me.

After Aug. 14, 2010, you won't be hearing from these idiots anyway, it'll all be over.

My guess is this is all "make work" for census workers, so that the feds can fudge the job numbers all they want.

Sad times we live in......
