UK (OP) User ID: 1033956 United Kingdom 07/12/2010 02:53 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | would the oil sitting on top act as a type of solar blanket and heat up the water? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1029824This seems to be the case and as the water heats up more methane rises to the surface potentially increasing the chance of a huge methane bubble explosion. I am me, who are you? |

Quoting: UKSod global warming, there's more chance we'll be burnt alive in a catastrophic methane fire ball. Only an utter moran would think that humans almost 10 billion strong have had no effect on the earth's climate. We are all interconnected and our pollution has hurt the Earth's biodiversity and climate. |

No more fucking bailouts for criminal activity and incompetence. |

We are all interconnected and our pollution has hurt the Earth's biodiversity and climate. I agree, though I also think all our pollution combined doesn't equal what they have done to the gulf. Halliburton did this, remember that |

However a event such as a undersea landslide or quake will result in vast reserves of Methane surfacing and potentially igniting atmospherically, causing a huge localised fireball. destroying much of the OZone in the Gulf for some time. |

Quoting: Ocean Motionhow the hell would they do that? by the time those bubbles reach the surface they are not the small ones we see emerging. the decrease in pressure means they get much bigger, and disperse over a wide area too. it's getting into the atmosphere, and slowly, ever so slowly (at the moment anyway) atmospheric concentrations are rising. when it gets above 5%, and up to 15% of methane to air in any area it is accumulated in the atmosphere, just one lightning bolt and |

Quoting: RUDDDwhy would methane stay in the water once released from it's hydrate state? it is lighter than air, so it will shoot up out of the water. yes, small percentages will stay in the water, but the vast majority will escape to the atmosphere as it is mostly insoluble in water. methane hydrates stay in the water, or on the seafloor anyway, until they are disturbed by some destructive event. |
