It is very clear at least that Neil says Disney, then straight after that says bullshit, how could that have been overlooked for more than 40 years!

Freaking weird days indeed!

Hey, Opie, are you sure we can't interest you in some other historical events?

Surely, after listening to the eyewitness broadcast of the Hindenburg disaster, you could reveal how the Hindenburg was actually a converted submarine. I mean, it's right there in the broadcast for everyone to hear; "Oh, the huge manatee!"

What the hell is this? Are those the same pictures what were broadcast live on TV in 1969?

How can anyone believe that you went to the moon after seeing this?

It would have been WAAAAAY smarter to pretend to land on the moon, than to spend all the money and risk the failure of attempting to go there!

So, if the US pretended to go to them moon, it looks much better than if it actually did.

Stanley Kubrick... the man generally fingered as the "light and magic" producer of the Apollo mission hoaxes.

In Kubrick's movie The Shining there is much to interpret... very interesting stuff. See: [link to www.jayweidner.com]

I used to call the Apollo hoax crowd a bunch of wingnuts... but over time I have realized that the government I thought was so trustworthy really isn't... in fact ALL THEY DO is lie and deceive it seems. Apollo hoax fits right into the grand deception.

My former logically understandable world is now shattered... but in a way its exciting too as new doors of perception have opened. Talk about a mind blowing change for this human being tho... wow.

How wonderful for you. You've invented a world where everyone is a fuck-up, no-one has a clue about how anything works, and no-one has a chance anyhow against the giant conspiracy running the planet into the ground. You've discovered the vistas that come from your own imagination after eating a 21" peperoni pizza with extra garlic, and used these primitive pictures to replace the wonders of the natural world around you. By closing your eyes, you've decided you see more.

I think I'll stick with the world where exciting and miraculous things happen, and where what I learn and understand is not poorly-painted pictures and empty words, but the wonderful detailed intricate workings out of science and technology and the natural world we are still discovering.

You have gained the ability to look at a prism and go "ooh, pretty colors." I'll stay with the ability to say "ooh, look at how the slower phase velocity in the solid is causing frequency-linked refraction of the light." Because I can see all this, and I can ALSO say "ooh, pretty colors."

You guys can never make up your minds. Over in another corner, someone is complaining that the landings were an obvious hoax because nobody used the low gravity as a chance to jump up like Wilt Chamberlain and find out how far they could throw the Lunar Rover.

Ever think that it might not be the missions at error, it might be your assumptions?

I remember as a kid being taken to see the 'Lunar module' and thinking, no way, just no way did they land on the moon in that thing.

It looked like a metal frame covered with tin foil, plastic sheeting and oh, of course I remember the crinkly copper looking stuff.

We were being shown a film of one of the crew playing golf on the moon (I have NEVER seen this since) at the same time the guide was explaining just why the 'tin foil' was so thin - weight/thrust ratio.

That day - as a twelve year old, I pointed out to all and sundry attending that if weight/thrust ratio was so critical, why did they include golf clubs in the payload?

Withing a second my right ear was stinging to the teachers blow across it and told "not to be rude, the man is talking."

This is a true story and stands as a metaphor for all those who belive in the hoax. Many of us are (metaphorically)slapping the fuck out of your head screaming "wake the fuck up"!

But you won't, can't accept it, can you?

For the awake unsheepled, patience my friends, the cracks are appearing everywhere, we're approaching critical mass.

No pity, no shame, be strong for them and remember you were once like them. It's a great responsibility to be awake these days.

I'm going to ask you a meta question here. Can you think of any other human activity where you would want to just stand and stare and try to figure it out for yourself, rather than, say, ask someone who knew, or look it up?

I mean -- do you think the best way to figure out how to repair a car is to open the hood and stare at it a while and try to guess at what all the parts do?

Is the best way to study history to think hard about what MIGHT have happened in the past, and make up long elaborate stories about it?

Why is it, then, that you decide that the best way to understand the space program is by looking at a random video and then just standing around trying to figure out what you see....and then deciding anything you can't figure out means the entire thing is a massive hoax?

What happens if you actually try looking stuff up? Let's take the golf club. Didn't happen. Not like that, anyhow. Each astronaut had a small personal weight allowance -- some took a book, one took a ham sandwich (if I remember correctly!) and Alan Shepard took a head. Just the head. Didn't weight much.

When he got to the Moon and AFTER they had managed to complete all of their scheduled tasks, he screwed the head into one of the geology tools they were already carrying and using for the scientific missions. And took one shot.

And, yeah, he got bragging rights; first (and only!) man to "play" golf on the Moon. Even if it was just one shot, without even a cup to aim for.

So are you saying that it is ridiculous that one man would chose to do this? As opposed to bringing along, say, a paperback, or another pair of socks? Are you saying it was ridiculous for NASA to allow a 180-lb man to carry one or two pounds of something personal on a difficult journey further away from the rest of humanity than anyone had been before or since?

Because THIS is the actual scenario. Not your ludicrous scenario of a full set of golf equipment being packed for the crew's amusement.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 8597527

Actually, no.

Although I DID see the first landing on television, I was way too young to appreciate it. I didn't realize this was something real that was happening. I didn't think about the Apollo Program for years.

Later, around college, I was interested (on an amateur level) in astronomy and space exploration. But even then, the lunar landings were only a footnote; no more important to me than Sputnik, or Voyager, or Clementine.

It was actually thanks to the hoax promoters that I got my new interest in the Apollo Program. First off, I had these idiots who were claiming that daylight film was appropriate to capture starlight, and rockets couldn't work in vacuum. And yet, some people seemed to be listening to them. So I started looking around at who was talking about a moon hoax, and what they were saying, and what other people were saying in return.

Measuring up against some "lesson" -- from television or otherwise -- was never on. I'd never had the experience of having the reality of Apollo, specifically, drilled into my head. And I didn't have any emotional stake in the matter one way or another. I was, however -- and still am -- the arrogant kind of physics nerd who likes to pull out a slide rule and see if the things people are saying make sense. And I don't care who says them; I'm an all-customers skeptic.

And I have to say, the vast majority of what the hoax promoters have said is utter crap. Kindergarten science, basic logic errors. It is fun watching them -- the same way it is fun to read the stories at Fail Blog or admire the CF code posted at WTF Code.

So you want me to give the hoax believers any respect? Find something they say that doesn't fall apart in a few minutes on basic science.

Television plays no part in this. Heck...I haven't owned one for most of my life (and the last one, I never bothered to get a converter for so now it is a handy doorstop).

There IS a delay in the Apollo transmissions. They recorded it at mission control though so you'll only notice it between stuff mission control says and the response from the astronauts. Even then if the astronauts knew what was being asked they could start responding before the question was finished, but that NEVER happens in real life right?
