Imagine gaining a person´s trust instantly by spraying a particular hormone.

It sounds more like a plot for another Batman sequel. But it could be a reality one day.

Swiss and American scientists have demonstrated in new experiments how a squirt of oxytocin (ahk-sih-TOH´-sin) stimulates trusting behavior in humans.

Scientists say the new research raises important questions about the hormone´s potential as a therapy for conditions like autism, in which trust is diminished.

But scientists also worry the findings open up opportunity for abuse.

The study appears in tomorrow´s issue of the journal Nature.
