Even neanderthal appears to have some interest in 'art' and 'fashion' indicating that they were far more advanced than we gave them credit for.

If 'cavemen' had clubbed their women folk we would be doing it today. Instead we resort to trickery and flattery and competition from our physical appearance to being able to provide stability and security. These traits didn't just appear when we became civilized, they were in play well before civilization.

Display and 'dance and song' to impress mates is 'normal' for all animal species to win mates. Clubbing or resorting too violence to attain a mate appears to be counter to survival of a species thus no species actually resorts to these sorts of things to win a mate.

Probably not ... but stealing another group's women was common long ago, and in some areas not so long ago.

In the western world the history of Rome is a good example. One tribe (the Romans) invited another tribe over for dinner ... and voila, killed them all so as to get their women. (not sure why the Romans didn't have wives, or few of them had wives, but they apparently were short a bunch of women for the men)

Tribes stealing other tribes women is a staple in history ... so there is definitely a strong biological drive to do it.

It does make you wonder with China which is now looking at a shortage of a hundred or two hundred women for it's younger men what it is going to be doing. Tens of millions of Chinese men will NEVER have a wife ... unless massive numbers of men are either killed, or they steal women from elsewhere.

Maybe that is one reason why warfare is so common throughout history ... kill off vast numbers of men so that the male/female ratio is kept in closer balance (lots more women have historically died young compared to men in most traditional societies due to the complications of childbirth etc., so by the age of 22-25 or so men considerably outnumber women in those societies)
