An undersea earthquake of magnitude 6.6 has occurred at 11:04 PM EST on Sunday

18 July 2010 near NEW BRITAIN REGION, P.N.G. (latitude 6.180S longitude

150.630E ).

quite close, just 61 KMs, from a 5.5 x 7.5 caldera called Witori which contains a very active volcano called Pago.

Downgraded to 6.9 now

it's only the big ones, the ones they CAN'T hide, which are the ones WE get to see.

they're showing us Yellowstone, and Iceland, it's the ones we're NOT watching that'll get us.

We'll see how long it takes USGS to twist their arm to conform to the downgrade. USGS hates to report large earthquakes . . . something to do with scaring the sheeple.

EMSC originally had it as a 6.9 - but now it is listed as a 7.1! You don't see that happen often.

On this Day in 2008 in Papua New Guinea:
1998

A 23-foot-high tidal wave crashed into the northern coast of Papua New Guinea, washing away villages built on beaches and killing nearly 3,000 people. Thousands were without food and shelter after the wave hit the southwest Pacific island group following a magnitude-7 earthquake about 12 miles offshore.
