Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1035660M A C !!!!! before you Mac users begin your gloating, you’re not safe either. In fact it’s a much bigger flaw which can affect the iPod touch, iPhone and iPad, because they all use the same OS X base. Security researcher Ilja van Sprundel from IOActive discovered this hole. He can use it to manipulate the IOKit element of the operating system and through that exploit a wide range of bugs to affect Mac OS X devices |

So don't plug usb key or any removable disk that is not your own until they find a fix. They never said this flaw could be used through internet. |

J.H.F.C. User ID: 889802 United States 07/20/2010 01:18 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | yes you have read right. Quoting: Windows without icons, wow. 1041582a new hole has been found in Wintendo and it is used by script kiddies : [link to www.h-online.com] To get infected you need only to display a infected ICON. You need not even to double click it. It will launch silently by itself if it is a infected *.LNK file that contains code. Windows Vista and 7 are even more at risk, because the new Explorer displays not only Icons, but thumbnails and previews for nearly every document format around.. The only solution per MS advisory is to disable the ShellIconHandler key in regedit for LNK files. This leads to some sort of inconvenience because a lot of icons will be missing after the "solution" .. Be prepared for missing icons on the Desktop, the startmenu and in explorer, depending on the Windows versions even in the control panel .. white icons or only text, the "picture" is gone. The security hole is found in every Windows OS, including Xp,Vista and 7. If I dare say so, there isn't any computer security as long as Microsoft is around... Why don't we all give up on this microsoft thing once and for all. There are alternatives. About 6,090,000 Google results (0.22 seconds) (That's six million, ninety thousand results for those of you who can't understand numbers due to our wonderous educational system we have here in the United (Altered) States of America.) Anonymous Coward User ID: 1041978 United States 07/20/2010 01:20 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Open Source is hands down bar none more secure then closed source like windows and mac Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1022207Open source is extremely unsecured, because its OPEN. Nobody sends out viruses against it like they do windows. ALL operating systems are vulnerable, its just Micro$oft is so hated world wide, they get hammered. MACs don't get viruses because how secure they are, its because they aren't being attacked. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 511512I think eventually there will be an OS that is ENTIRELY web based. Web based firewalls and apps like Jinzora, webmin, and BASE have shown me the possibilities in this concept. I have considered building me a minimal linux system with just X that jumps straight into a browser- and to have all the normal OS control to be http based. |
