I live in Georgia. I can't speak for other areas of the country but it seems to me that the judicial system is out of f'n control. They wield their power as if they were Judge & Jury. Mr. McHugh made a statement "What is a disgrace is the fact that people can get on the news and say whatever they want and won’t be held accountable when it’s proven untrue." WELL welcome to our fucking world Mr. McHugh. These people who hold this position of authority are becoming nothing more than the THUGS and THIEFS they claim to arrest.

And, something that was confirmed by my daughter (who is a Prosecutor in another county in Georgia) is that with the economy as seriously bad as it is, the Cops are going for ANYTHING to bring money into their counties. Six traffic tickets for an expired tag, etc ..... they get creative in how they write up their tickets so as to generate more revenue for their county. Ironically enough (as my daughter stated) no one is actually able to pay these high fines because the economy is so depressed. So what happens when you can't pay your fines? You go on 'fine probation' making monthly payments until the fine is paid off, and you ALSO have to pay a $45.00 per month 'management fee' (more ways to make their money.

It's out of hand. Whoever said we were becoming a Police State is DEAD WRONG. We have ALREADY BECOME one.

None I know or work with. maybe it is their leadership. It's about the Constitution. Anybody that don't know that SHOULD NOT HAVE A BADGE, GUN OR SHARP STICK PERIOD. The guys I know climb into burning cars to pull a trapped woman just as the flames came out from under the dash, jumped and disarmed a suicidal Viet Nam vet seeking "suicide by cop" and got him help and tied to a rope, waded through chest to neck deep water to rescue victims in flood. I am ashamed of these guys with their conquering Wermacht attitude. Sux.

You cannot shift a persons opinion easily by attacking them.

Especially if they have an ego involved reason to disbelieve what you are saying.

The police can only be changed by changing the structure they exist in and in whom is allowed to take up that position.

Talking to a Police chief won't help that, they don't set policy. Find who does and change their mind...

Then maybe we can get something done on this issue.

True. I'm not sure if there's any answer.

If the majority of the public was outraged, and the mayor who is this police chief's boss, knew that he would be destroyed in the next election as a result, maybe things would change.

It would also help if this police chief knew that he was a social pariah. If his neighbors turned their back on him; his church, if he has one, excommunicated him; if people spat when he walked by, maybe things would improve.

The cops will keep doing this crap as long as they can get away with it and as long as their bosses support it.

That is actually a good idea in a way, refusing to do business with corrupt officers, telling people not to vote for the person in charge until there is positive and real change.

It would take a majority of the people and shuld be done without rancor, but it may be effective in the long run.

And you know what, you are right too. Lumping all police officers or Police Forces, is like saying that all white people are racists, all black people love watermelon, and that all muslims hate Americans.

You can never lump everyone into one category. It boils down to individuals. There are good, and bad, good hearts, and evil. Just seems the good ones are out numbered.

The problem these days is you call 911 and they send cops even when you need an ambulance. Then the cops beat you up because they don't know how to do CPR or anything.

And the double bonus is they enjoy beating/tazing someone even more than the two week vacation they get as reward.

Maybe what McHugh is referring to is that the father may have pushed back on the officer who put his hand on him or shoved back. Think about it. When someone grabs my arm I not only say, "take your hands off me" but also push back or use other hand to shove their arm away.

I'm not defending officer because I think he should have given the father his space under the circumstances. The man must have been emotionally distraught and in shock so the officer should have talked him down instead of putting a hand on him. But I think it may be their defense if the father did shove back a bit.
