There is nothing mysterious about it. It was just a glitch. Some internal variable used inside de software used a "zeroed" date -1.
In POSIX systems like Linuxes, Unixes, iOS, Android, etc. the "zero" date is January 1st, 1970. Taking one from that you get back to the "mysterious" date. There is no hidden message, directed code or conspiracy going on. Just software glitch.
