MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Powerful thunderstorms caused widespread flooding in southern Wisconsin, closing down Milwaukee's airport and opening up a giant sink hole, and two people were hospitalized after being struck by lightning, authorities said.

Heavy rain pounded the region for several hours Thursday evening, and flooding snarled traffic along water-blocked roadways. The National Weather Service reported several tornadoes.

Another round of showers and thunderstorms forecast for Friday could add to the misery. The National Weather Service issued a new flash flood watch for all of southern Wisconsin.

At the height of the storm Thursday, a massive sink hole swallowed a Cadillac Escalade at an intersection near downtown Milwaukee, and parts of the city saw up to 7.5 inches of rain in just two hours, according to the state Division of Emergency Management.

Uh--flooding closes airport---Ya see it`s pretty simple--water gets under anything like say asphault and slowly works out a big underground tunnel then it collapses on itself...all sink holes are caused by water...no major deal...very simple in terms

it was raining at a rate of 3" per hour

i'm surprised there are not more sink holes

its going to be any day now when sinkholes swallow a house or a tall building

MILWAUKEE - A huge sinkhole has formed between two homes on Milwaukee's north side.

Newsradio 620 WTMJ's Erik Bilstad reports from the scene that one of the homes is teetering on what little is left of its foundation

Yep started thinking of it the other week after reading one of these sink hole stories.

But one thing just bugs me a lot and thats why are these things looking like a huge hole puncher just well just made a hole in the earth, they are way too round and perfect looking.
