Hmmm...the OP may be on to something. Looking at the USGS map - California is really bottom heavy in quakes. There's nothing large in the north to balance out the stress.

I don't know if it's this weekend - but it does look like a significant quake is due in the SF area or at least someplace in the northern part of the state. It doesn't have to be on the level of DOOM - but I would say at least in the 5 - 6 range and a 7+ is a reasonable possibility.

Although...this one in Canada:

May have released enough pressure to keep SF safe

But then again - Oregon is completely void of quakes...so that's a good possibility a well.
