Anonymous Coward User ID: 1040201 Germany 07/24/2010 07:14 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A rant in progress on illegal immigration: Going after the business owners who take advantage of desperate people to pay shit wages and fuck up the wage scale and job markets for everyone is a good start. But these “third” and “second” world countries would not be so poor in the first place if the likes of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund did not bribe their leaders into accepting huge “loans” that they are incapable of repaying, take the natural resources and physical assets of these countries in return, and pay the people shit wages to strip these resources to fatten their coffers. The desperate “peons” trying to feed their families have very little to do with the root causes of the problems. About 1.92 percent of the U.S. populous are illegal Mexican immigrants. Most of them came here to work and do just that. Yes, it is a problem. But it is like a gnat on an elephants ass compared to the trillions of dollars our government (you) just gave to “bail out” the banks after they robbed your retirement funds in the largest and most blatant ponsi scheme ever perpetrated. The Federal Reserve (which is neither federal nor a reserve) prints money to lend the U.S. with interest and then prints more money to lend the U.S. (with more interest) to pay the interest! Could it be more in your fucking face? These Machiavellian, power mad, piss poor excuses for human beings then create fraudulent housing and stock bubbles, sell short just before the crashes, then buy up the physical assets for pennies on the dollar; then do it over and over again! It is like a god damned nightmare but I can't wake up. I know that illegal immigration is a problem, and for some (like those that live near the border) it is a mess. The incredible violence is rooted in a disastrous 40-year Drug War, which amounts to the tragic decision(s) to attack the Supply there with police and military violence instead of addressing Demand here as a social/medical crisis with Harm Reduction policies. It would have cost a fraction of what the Drug War has cost. Insanity. And sadly, folks are being played. People start talk about shooting and bombing etc. and one-up each other as to who is the most willing to perpetrate the vilest acts and call people the vilest names and pumping it up. People get so pissed they become blind. There are those benefit greatly from this and the rest of us do not. Not to mention the fact that we, who represent less than 5 percent of the worlds population, spend as much or more on arms and war than the rest of all the nations of the world combined--every fucking year. And what do we use these weapons for? To bomb cities and to kill hundreds of thousands of mostly innocent folks. Did you know that we are spending billions of dollars right now to build 8 new military bases in Columbia? That is 8 more to add to over 300 existing foreign bases whose maintenance alone costs us many billions of dollars a year. Imagine how many jobs we could create here at home with just a fraction of that blood money. Imagine how many schools we could build; how many teachers we could hire. Our schools are ranked 33rd in the world, our constitutional rights are evaporating, and people are going hungry and are without shelter. The sick, the poor, the huddled masses—you are they. And to those who keep calling Mexico a “shit hole”etc. I counter that Mexico is an unusually beautiful country (and nearly a million Americans live here and well over half of them illegally). The boarder towns, like most border towns in most countries, are fairly corrupt and violent, and the drug cartels on both sides of the border are, indeed, horrific. But the country and its people are varied and wonderful. From the rugged Pacific coast, to the central valleys, to the northern deserts, the Sierra Madres, the Caribbean shores, and the southern rainforests (where I have lived and worked and raised a family for the last fifteen years) the people and the land are marvelous. Families are close-nit, indigenous cultures and traditions are as varied and vivid as the landscape, children (yes, there are a lot of them) are treasured. I live in the very poorest part of Mexico, among mostly Maya farmers, but there is very little hunger here and no one starves. The are no old folks homes or orphanages or mental hospitals. People are accustomed to take care of each other. Extended families work together in the fields and care for each others children and the old and infirm. It is a striking contrast to what I was used to growing up in Los Angles and living in other cities in several of the United States. Yes, again, illegal immigration is a problem in the U.S., but it is obvious that we have far greater problems that more urgently need to be addressed. I see the emotion and furor over illegal immigration being fanned intentionally to distract the American people so as not to recognize the true wolves in our midst. I hear Machiavelli laughing from the grave. I have great love for both countries and their people. And, as an unlikely hero from my home town of L.A. once said, “Can't we all just get along?” I am an American posting from Mexico. I am the husband of a fine Mexican wife and the father of two beautiful Mexican/American boys. I am probably at least as angry as you are about this situation and its root causes. I am also sick of the hate. Peace, Paz. |

I am also sick of the hate. Peace, Paz. I've seen this rant more than once. And I've discussed it with the poster himself. While I agree that the Federal Reserve sucks (established 1913); the Drug War is a failure (ongoing since at least 1970); the US spends too much on the military/industrial complex (Eisenhower said the same thing in 1960); and the World Bank is not a friend of the Third World, I think that he's missed the point. And I can see why. He's an ex-pat living in a rural and remote area of Mexico and has the benefit of time and distance to contemplate the ills and evils of the United States. Therefore, I don't believe he has any inkling of what's really going on the "boarder" (sic) or in other areas of the US that are overwhelmed with illegals. And that's probably true of most people who depend on the media's rendition of conditions and events "on the front lines," so to speak. My take is this: We *have been* played. It's time for this game, this scheme, this illegal activity, and this con to stop. Enough. And those of us who have seen the results of illegal immigration (occupation) with their own eyes, know exactly what I mean by the words: "game," "scheme," and "con." We are *being* played for sure ... every single day. Enough. |
