i could be wrong here but i thought originally the the thread was about the jobs going elsewhere and not to the residents who need the cash?????


That's what I thought as well.

But no one else has also mentioned that at least part of the expense for prisoner upkeep is being paid by BP. Should actually make the taxpayers happy to save some money on the expense of prisoners and that they are actually working for their keep.


I won't get into the whole "it's toxic" stuff as most likely the prisoners were told ahead of time and had to "work" to get on the chain gang most likely they could have opted out of working at the Gulf. (I don't know, but knowing how sue happy everyone is, the prisons probably made them sign a type of release from harm statement...again, only my guess).
