Rare books that lead to treasure? Hypnerotomachia Poliphili...Dead sea scrolls ....Templars etc.
Dear ''All''

In 1497 during a misty night in November two messengers rode out from the Vatican carrying documents going furiously to San lorenzo.

Outside the city walls of Rome stood this Chapel where the riders ventured...a secluded place. The two riders had been warned under pain of death not to open the contents of their letters.

The letter had been sealed 4 times in dark wax.

The two horsemen Rodrigo and Donato did not heed thier masters warning about not opening the letters. They heated the wax seals with a candle and read. Before leaving for San lorenzo they resealed the document and copied the seal impression again.

Being none the wiser and thinking themselves geniuses they went to the church to meet their fate ...death. You see the wax seals were in fact made from deadly nightshade...a plant used medicinally. which when apllied to the eyes made the eyes dilate. In those days it was used by Italian women as large pupils were considered a beautiful thing as a cosmetic....it was this practice which
earned the plant its nickname ''beautiful woman'' or belladonna.

It was this fact which would be their undoing you see when they got to the church they were brought towards the candlelight in the candelabraa as the story goes and their eyes failed to constrict...and their contact knew what they had inhaled.....they died quickly.

The hypnerotomachia is a book written by these two couriers master Francesco Colonna. in the book Francesco tells of a Dream of a person named poliphili whom has a dream....

In this time period Europe was going through a purification of sorts deeming many pieces of art history and more to be not in line with official church teachings and hence was in need of burning... Francesco Was the man whom smuggled out of Europe pieces of this history and archeaology given him by others ....He hid the location to the treasure in the pages of the book he wrote. The only way to get to the clues is to appreciate a GREAT deal of humanities studies (which would have been in opposition to the church view) and hence prove the interpreter ''worthy'' of the treasure.

Knight templar treasure? lost works on atlantis? Annunaki? Humanity may never know but an interesting read on this topic can be found in ''The Rule of Four'' written by Ian Caldwell and Dustin Thomson.

There are many books that hold many mysteries I thought it would be appropriate for GLP to have a ''rare books thread''.

Feel free to add your own.

Warm regards,
Edmond Dantes

It is not a rare book, but Graham Hancock wrote a terrific tale called "The Sign and the Seal". The treasure he sought was the Ark of the Convenant, and he uses history to trek all over several continents searching for the Ark -- the real Ark; the one that Moses was in possession of. Not only does this book read like a travelogue, but it is filled with ancient myths and amazing mysteries regarding the Knights Templar, secret documents, Masonry, and well-known names of the Elite -- all of which Hancock investigates personally and up close.

John Keel had a lifelong interest in magic and took a journey to India to learn the Indian Rope Trick. He published this travelogue in 1957, called Jadoo. It is filled with an enormous amount of mysteries that Keel ran into and investigated back in the 1950's, when borders were easier to cross and travel was relatively more free. The treasure he sought was the mechanics behind the Indian Rope Trick, but he actually experiences some really astounding things that eclipses the rope trick.

DS scrolls yes...

but for me, nothing beats the heretical, hidden truths that can be found in the Nag Hammadi codices. There was a great attempt to destroy this information but these texts were hidden by monks 1800 years ago because they knew this was important for some future generation. The first codex I read was the Secret Book of John also known as the Apocryphon of John, but for anyone who has not read it, be prepared to be shocked.

They are available free here for all who have eyes to see and ears to hear:

The Gospel of Judas used to be included at that site but can be read here:

The Secret Commonwealth of Elves, Fauns and Fairies

In the late 17th century, a Scottish minister went looking for creatures of "a middle nature betwixt man and angel." Robert Kirk roamed the Highlands, talking to country folk about their encounters with supernatural creatures.

This remarkable record of their testimonials offers rare glimpses into a world of everyday magic.

The Greatest Story Never Told: A Scientific Inquiry into the Evidence of the Fall of Man from a Higher Civilization in Antiquity

Eight years of exhaustive research has revealed the true history of mankind, hidden in the ancient texts of the Egyptian, Sumerian, Indian and Hebrew peoples. Did man have a fully developed, technological society in deepest antiquity? Did he once have the power of space flight? Did a vast universal war destroy the world? Fact or fiction?

That is what this research attempts to discern as the ancient texts unfold their secrets. Here is a book that carefully tells the story of how the human race got here in the first place. this introductory information will have to start what will become a most amazing revelation, one which Zecharia Sitchin has already spelled out in his Earth Chronicle series. "According to the Veda, vast empires waxed and waned in biochemical dishevels.

Atlantis and Lemuria were the climax of great trade routes that stemmed from one corner of the world to the other. Atlantis' location was, as the name implies. a continent in the Atlantic. Lemuria was now only a chain of volcanic islands, and, if we read the tectonics correctly, the lost island of Mu of the Japanese. Ms. Lana Cantrell.

Cantrell brought to her study of pre-history not only an open mind (a major pre-requisite) but also an extensive background in medical writing and reporting, which enabled her to offer unique insights on many mysteries of pre-history -- insights we have never seen before, and may never see again.

The Complete Books of Charles Fort: The Book of the Damned / Lo! / Wild Talents / New Lands

This scholarly exploration of the borderlands between science and fantasy features four complete works by the redoubtable Charles Fort (1874-1932): The Book of the Damned, Lo!, Wild Talents, and New Lands.

All concern the bizarre phenomena unexplained by traditional science that the author spent the better part of three decades documenting: flying saucers, telekinesis, sudden showers of fish from the sky, stigmata, poltergeists, and spontaneous combustion (to name a few).
Fort's florid style and freakish subjects were much criticized by his contemporaries, but he was defended and admired by an equal number of readers, including such note worthies as Theodore Dreiser, Clarence Darrow, and Oliver Wendell Holmes.

Stimulating, bewildering, and intoxicating, this intellectual tour de force is a must for lovers of science fiction as well as science facts.

Sign and the Seal wasn't bad, but I much preferred his book "Fingerprints of the Gods".

I've also enjoyed many of Micheal Baigent's books including "Ancient Traces" and "The Dead Sea Scroll Deception".

Elaine Pagels also has many good reads on the gnostic texts.

Good thread Edmund!
