It seems, after reading some of the book this morning, everything I thought I was doing right I am not doing right...!!!!!!!! The author states that the BRASSICA FAMILY - that is cabbage, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, broccoli, bok choy - decrease thyroid function by inhibiting the iodine uptake... Also they contain sulfer compounds that hinder thyroid synthesis... He does say to just reduce these in the diet.. He recommends taking Selenium, Vit D, Vit A, Vit C, Vit E, and zinc...and Bromelan (enzymes) Dont know what they are.. Take a multi vitamin tablet (one a day) Selenium - 200mcg a day -Tyrosine - 400-6000mg a day I do take a Vit D3 1000 IU which has boron and selenium in it. Always consult your Dr by the way -- this is just a discussion thread and we're just trying to get back to a more wholistic approach to this endocrine imbalance.. I dont think vitamins can do any harm ... But once again - a balanced diet should provide all the vitamins we need.. He has put in som very interesting recipes -- will copy one or two for you -- quoting his book and his name of course.... bromelain enzymes are pineapple and papaya, etc. they have dried pineapple and papaya at the health food store..... but you can buy the enzymes........ I will not stop eating cruciferous vegetables, they fight cancer. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And sulfur compounds are good for your heart!!!!!!! |

So far I can see that a multi vitamin is probably well worth considering at this time, as it will give you many minerals missing in food. We in Australia are lacking zinc as our soils lack it ....A MULTI VITAMIN CONTAINS the following - VITAMIN Bs -VIT A -VIT E - CALCIUM - FOLIC ACID MAGNESIUM, -COPPER - CHROMIUM - ZINC - IODINE -POTASSIUM- PHOSPHERUS - SELENIUM - AND SOME OTHERS..... However from what I have learned so far - a natural routine of eggs for breakfast - egg whites important- on a grain bread -vit e - some fried red capsicum (red pepper) Vit c -- or maybe a cup of oats with small amount of milk, and selenium sprinkled on top --- a banana - for pottasium and some green tea.. might be a good way to start the day -- salt with iodised salt.... Then for mid morning snack - a buckwheat crepe with some honey -- and some juiced apples or other fruit.. A juicer is a good piece of equipment to have... Vegetable and fruit juices are very beneficial - if you are diabetic however fruit is very high in sugar and it is probably better to concentrate on vegetable juicing.... Lunch might be a salad with salmon - or tuna - asparagus and beans or a vegetable sandwich .. some thin slices of chicken breast - low fat mayonaise - salt with iodinised salt and pepper - delicious... Dinner - Have a steak (no fat) if vegetarian experiment with nut meat or meatless stews - can be very tasty too.....Lots of beans - some cauliflower florets But remember we have been advised to cut down on cauliflower, cabbage, broccoli etc as these contain sulpher and inhibit the thyroid somewhat...... Look for foods that have the vitamins and minerals that are listed ina good multi vitamin tables -- I know we are trying to substitute pills for natural foods but it does take time and experimenting... ANY IDEAS ON A GOOD BALANCED DIET ARE WELCOME FROM POSTERS OUT THERE... CHEERS capsicum is plentiful in HOT PEPPERS not red peppers. |

I am feeling the best that I have felt in 15 years, which goes back to well before my hypothyroidism was diagnosed. I have energy. My hands and feet and whole body are warmer and less prone to chills. My dry skin(hypo symptom) and rosacea are gone. I am sleeping longer by an average of about an hour. Sleep troubles are another hypo symptom. In the last three weeks I have taken zero of my prescription synthroid. I have taken one or two of the NatureThroid Raw Porcine per day. I am feeling great! I am cooking my foods in butter, coconut oil, or lard. I am eating bacon and eggs with cheese nearly everyday for breakfast. I am eating almost zero carbs, including no fruits, fruit drinks, or high-glycemic index vegetables such as potatoes. No rice, beans, nor pasta. I never heard of anyone running out of thyroid medication and dying.. I have a sneaky suspicion that people don't really need it.. I don't use and have never used prescription drugs or medicine.. I'm 59.. how come? You don't just drop over dead a few days after you run out. But over time, an untreated under-active thyroid will lead to premature death. Speaking for myself, I think I would have offed myself before too much longer. I got on the synthetic and started feeling better within a week. Problem is, as with most prescriptions, it treats the symptoms and does nothing about the underlying causes of the condition. Among possible underlying causes are exposure to various toxins, iodine-deficiency, auto-immune conditions where the thyroid is attacked by the body's own immune system, and a poor diet that causes your thyroid to slow your metabolism because your body thinks it is starving. What I am finally learning, in large part thanks to the high fat thread posted by Scorpion, is that "metabolic syndrome' appears to be caused by our high carbohydrate diet and the gradual development of insulin resistance in our organs. Over time, the body is less and less able to use the energy from carbohydrates, which are either converted into glucose to burn as energy, or stored as pure saturated fat on the body, for later use. As this progresses, the body literally thinks it is starving, and one of the responses is to slow down your metabolism in an effort to survive. The thyroid is the gland which regulates your metabolism. The high fat diet kicks your system over into a fat-burning metabolism and gives your insulin resistant organs a chance to heal themselves over time, depending on how badly they have been damaged by years and years of over eating carbs. I am in my fifth week on the high fat diet and I am feeling fantastic. You can get off cholesterol medications too, because cholesterol is good. We have been bamboozled on that one, for sure. I don't have a thyroid and am on synthroid. I have little energy if I go for 2 days without it, depression sets in etc. Concerned about shtf situation I ordered alternative supplement at www.mynaturalthyroid.com . I made it a few days on this but nowhere close to effect of synthroid. I am sure after a couple weeks without thyroid replacement it would kill me. All you people who eat meat, STOP. Don't kid yourself, it causes cancer just like cigarettes. Maybe decades ago it was safer. This is a great thread. would like to get a comprehensive herbal solution to thyroid replacement. |

Regarding fats, it is not exclusively animal fats. Coconut oil and olive oil and some nut oils come into play. Avocados are very high in fat and I am eating nearly one avocado a day. A big plus is the avoidance of nearly all processed foods, since nearly all meals are prepared from scratch. It is those foods that are loaded with HFCS, soy and soy derivatives, MSG, poly-unsaturated and hydrogenated vegetable fats,etc.. My guidelines recommend limiting cruciferous veggies to one cup per day, and cooked, rather than raw. I am still eating all of them. The high-protein diets are risky. Unless you are a heavy exerciser or body-builder, your body needs only about 1 gram of protein per kilogram of body weight to maintain and repair existing muscle tissue. Protein in excess of that is converted to glucose by the liver, and then to pure saturated fat if the body does not need, or cannot process the glucose for energy. |
