THE SEEKER ---- If you are not having any success with Synthroid I would have a talk to your Dr. I am on medication which is just replacing the hormone that the thyroid no longer produces - and I feel O.K. But it woud be good to find something that could replace the pills. Unfortunately we dont have many of the products you have over there in the USA. I guess you are the only one who can find something that is suitable for you - but do try and heal yourself as the thyroid when it shuts down can leads to heart failure and dementia. That is what a physician told me....

Have you tried just supplementing with iodine? I have actually found 2% tincture of iodine applied to the skin several times a day works better for me than iodine pills. The change in how I feel when applying iodine to my skin is truly like night and day! I have narcolepsy and when I was using the iodine (I ran out close to a week ago) I was actually able to take 1/2 the dose of my narcolepsy meds and I felt GREAT!!!

I am really beginning to wonder if narcolepsy is also caused by an iodine deficiency. Iodine is necessary for the thyroid to make its hormones, so perhape iodine is also necessary for the hypothalamus to create hypocretin/orexin (the proteins missing in the brains of narcoleptics)???? I really think I am onto something here! Not only that, but the hypothalamus controls the pituitary gland, which controls -in large part- the thyroid gland. All of these body parts belong to the endocrine system and they are all related!

And think about this one! Most autoimmune disorders are in the endocrine system: narcolepsy, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, etc. Thyroid gland plays a huge role in the functioning of the endocrine system. Pituitary plays a large role in the functioning of the thyroid gland. Hypothalamus tells the pituitary gland to secrete the hormones which tell the thyroid to produce thyroid hormone. IODINE IS NECESSARY FOR THYROID HORMONE TO BE MADE. If there is not enough or NO iodine in the body, why would the hypothalamus bother telling the pituitary gland to send the signal to the thyroid to make hormone? I don't think it would.

I am not totally sure how to connect all of this, it's just what I have come up with recently. I do know that Dr. Brownstein says he believes autoimmune disorders are the result of an iodine deficiency. I also believe this to be true! My doctor was just getting ready to send me to an endocrinologist because I had so many problems and symptoms related to endocrine disorder. I had every symptom of hypothyroidism. I had a lot of pain in my joints, muscles and connective tissues, suggestive of arthritis, Lupus, rheumatoid arthritis (despite normal rheumatoid factor test), among other things. Just after visiting my doctor that day when she said she was getting ready to refer me to an endocrinologist, I stopped off and bought a bottle of 2% iodine tincture (I had just learned about it the day before - thank God!).

I KID YOU NOT! All of my symptoms completely disappeared over the next 2-3 weeks!!! Iodine is nothing short of a miracle!!! NO PAIN!!! The aches and pains in my muscles, joints, bones, etc. became a relaxed, sort of tingly, very good feeling! Almost as if I could not even feel them at all! I don't know how to explain it. Similar to when you are in pain and you take a codeine or vicodin and you feel that pain just melt away and it's replaced with just a warm, tingly, relaxed feeling in your muscles (without the narcotic effect, of course). Iodine just makes you feel GOOD, naturally! All day, every day!

I know it really works because I have been out for awhile and I feel that aching, tension and pain in my shoulders, neck, hips, knees, and muscles in general. Headaches are more frequent too. I did not take one ibuprofen during the 3-4 weeks I was using the iodine! I usually take ibuprofen several times per week (or day).

I hope my experience will help someone else!

A REALLY INTERESTING POST.... I am going to give the Iodine Tincture a try... I have read that many over there (in USA)are using this because of the radiation scare. I didnt realise it had all these other benefits.
Actually a friend of mine has been sent to see an endocrinologist because she has a multitiude of problems and they dont know what is happening with her endocrine system So I will tell her about your findings...

You may indeed help many....
