Quoting: 34 obama wants to focus on deep-space missions, rather than trips to the moon. the original space shuttle program was already on it's way out, due to the constellation project, which was developing a new system of rockets and a different shuttle. but the constellation project was way behind and way over budget, so obama canceled that altogether.
