Probably not in the literal sense. However if an outbreak of a pair of drug-resistant, virulent strains of each appeared in the same area, the death rates may go up in people infected with both organisms.

I swam at Grand Bend Beach, Ontario around 2002 the day before the beach was shut off due to Lake Huron e coli outbreak. I was extremely sick for the next few days. The day of the illness, I was bitten by a dog, so I feared it was rabies more than e coli. I called Telehealth Ontario and performed the advise given by them to nurture the illness and ultimately recovered.

Have no idea whether I had the flu, e coli, or something from the dog...

Look up the Walkerton, Bruce County, Ontario Tragedy of May 2000. 7 dead, 2,500 fallen ill.

It was like the movie 'Outbreak'.

I remember the listeria outbreak. We frequented Maple Leaf products before the outbreak, months leading up to the deaths, we stopped using their meats.

Even today I feel uneasy about it.
