Trying to get off the booze ... this is hell
Even writng this is a nightmare effort. They say three days and you're over the worst. Please tell me that's true. Every second is agony -- plus, I've quit without that other crutch, cigarettes. Time is going very slowly.

Dude, get outside immediately. Go hiking, swimming, anything to get your mind off of it. Maybe even a doobie or two, just don't go trading one vice for the other. If you're in any shape to do so, physical exercise is key, sweat those toxins out. Good luck man, it's worth getting a handle on it.

+1. also eat sugar. it will help with your alcohol cravings. try some hard candy or bubble gum or something.
as the pattern gets more intricate and subtle, being swept along is no longer enough.

I've been in your boat before. You will get extremely hungry after about the 3rd day. But don't worry, after about one or two more days you'll start feeling a lot better when your liver starts to function normally again. You'll lose about 20lbs in no time as well. Keep with it.

You should be doing a liver cleanse.
Free your mind and the rest will follow.

OP don't be an idiot and do this by yourself. If you have a severe addiction, you can KILL YOURSELF if the withdrawal is not MEDICALLY SUPERVISED. Go immediately to a general practitioner or addiction centre and seek help!

Your over the worst of the withdrawel. Eat some good food, stay hydrated, go for a walk or hike for an hour, and get some good sleep. Do this for a couple of more days and you will be a new person. Then don't touch alcohol ever again and your good to go.

drinking is fun but it is not worth the hangovers. the money it costs. and looking like a drunk fool to people that love you.

read up on what alcohol does to your liver and brain cells and stuff. you may as well be drinking poison.

You should check into a detox. The withdrawal and DTs can kill you.
I had a roomate who almost died from it.
They put her on a ourse of meds to control the DTs and the siezures she was having a few days after she quit.

Alcohol is the only drug that can physically kill you from withdrawal.
No one has ever seen a perfect circle, nor a perfectly straight line, yet everyone knows what a circle and a straight line are.
Perceived circles or lines are not exactly circular or straight, and true circles and lines could never be detected since by definition they are sets of infinitely small points.

Re: Trying to get off the booze ... this is hell
Thanks for all the above advice. Right now, I'm too out of my skin to go walking and I'm sweating like hell. I took Benadryl yesterday to help me sleep and had no DTs. I read that chicken soup is good, but I just don't trust myself to cook it.

I can't believe this is happening to me again. If I have just three beers, I crave alchohol in the morning .... and then it just goes on and one until I can't quit.

I'll tough it out. I'm gonna hate the next three days.

I love you all for your support. Thanks!

Find an AA meeting in your area you can get support from people that have been/are in your position.

Sweats and PANIC. Cannot go outside. The phone rang an hour ago and I couldn't pick it up. My hands are shaking as I write.

I need to take a bath but am dreading it -- scared of slipping.

Went out on Tuesday to drink just three beers with a new friend. In the morning, I couldn't face work without a triple scotch. By midday, I was sneaking vodka and orange in a flask (lots of mints to hide the smell). Been maintaining ever since. Last night I finished off a bottle of scotch.

I don't why I do this. I quit for months and then just a couple of beers triggers it all off again.

There is an alchoholism support group in my area and will attend when I'm well. Have been to AA before but only found myself feeling more depressed. My doc put me on Paxil -- oh, boy, did that stuff make me crazy! So now I try to avoid the medical profession.

Again, orange juice and honey will help with physical W/D.

Also mega B vitamin complex.

Be thankful about some things...

A friend of mine used to drink a half gallon of booze per day. He had it so bad in the AM, that the only way he could steady himself to hold the bottle was to pour it on the kitchen floor and lap it up like a dog.

Re: Trying to get off the booze ... this is hell
If I can anyone can, its been 6 yrs, and I still think of it every day, but not in a cravy way.
After 10 yrs of meetings I finally stopped when I stopped going. I still think that the BB helped, but for some reason when I really admitted that I couldn't handel it, and remind myself of that, on a daily basis, I don't need to go sit with a bunch of people who haven't made the same leap as me in order to stay sober. But it apparently helps with some.
Face facts you can handel it or not.
If you choose to stop there is everything else in the world for you. As your body and mind heal you will find you do not need to "enhance" everything. The possibilities are endless.
If you don't stop the outcome is always the same, Madness, with or without some type of confinement, loss, then death.
I just tell people when they offer that there isn't enough once I get started, I need at least 3 kegs, and more women!
But it dosen't come up much as I don't hang out with partiers anymore, thats something you gotta let go of in order to stay sober. That part about having a legitiment reason to be around drinkin estab. and all is in the first 164 pages of the BB, seems to stick in my mind.
Oh yea no more cold sweats of terror upon waking,I remember going to sleep!!, Good luck
