That is very true and it is very disturbing.
All you can do is take the path of least damage.

If you persist long enough in your quest for health, the path of least damage begins to coincide with
not eating at all. Some people call it 'breatharianism', 'inedia' , etc.
However this kind of spiritual stuff is only for a few. it doesn't work for the majority whose existence depends on a daily fix of poison. Every now and then I post some tidbits of info about breatharianism in this forum... Obviously, there are almost no replies, questions or comments, because as I said, it is a subject that touches on a deep personal level.
