As Descartes famously put it “I think, therefore I am”, an assertion that has come to be known as the cogito. Certainly the cogito doesn’t seem like something that can be doubted, but if we are really to rely on it we should be certain that its truth can be divorced from Descartes’ philosophy. Here then I will attempt to reconstruct the cogito, as something that cannot be doubted, using a modern philosophical approach. Quoting: DrEaMzits fuckin hard to just start writing something...especially something that has a point behind it. so im not going to do that...or maybe i am right now, i guess im writing about writing...so, my point (i guess) is its hard to make a point...yeah...something like that Well, how do we know that we aren't a machine that thoughts simply flow through, like a program on a computer? I'd say the proper way to philosophize about Descartes' statement is to put it thusly: "I am, therefore I think." Your signature line....about you writing about writing. It reminds me of how we use our brain to research the brain/mind. It takes a brain to examine a brain, especially our own. doncha know....the snake swallowing its own tail. |
