I use to work for a camp in the San Bernardino Mountains and let me tell you ... A few years ago they chased me 500 feet up a steep mountain during a night hike and I couldn't move for 4 hours till the sun rose. One morning taking a walk, a pack of coyotes were sizing him up. That's the weird thing about them- they have no fear...they'll walk down the road like a dog! I think they learn this from thier parents, and people are nowadays much more tolerant and kinder to wildlife - in their eyes if they do not see us a threat, that means we must be on their lunch menu. |

Too used to being hunted. A dead yodel pup is a good yodel pup Quoting: Anonymous Coward 814465Yup, in my neck of MT, same thing. They know better than to stalk a human in these parts.. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1050558 United States 08/09/2010 12:06 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Coyote attacks on human prey reports are on the rise as both the human and the coyote populations increase. Across North America coyotes are becoming less afraid of humans and the activities that used to keep them at bay. Fears are the stalking and killing will continue as humans encroach on the areas once considered wild. As the coyotes natural prey diminishes they will look at other food sources and humans are in their sights. With an estimated population of at least 2000 coyotes in the Chicago area it's really just a waiting game until they run out of rabbits and other small animals and start preying on house pets and stalking children playing in backyards and area parks. And it's not just the coyotes it's animals around the world. Elephants cougers, and even stingrays are killing humans at an alarming rate. Read the papers and watch TV. The animals are starting to revolt. Quoting: ClapForTheWolfman 1057641I've seen the evidence of this part with my own eyes. A coyote ran by my parents' neighbors and snatched up their dog one evening when they were walking it, about six months ago. My parents house backs up to a wooded area. The area is rapidly developing and more woods are being torn down. This article is definitely touching on a legitimate concern, from what I've seen. No BS flags here. |

Island Ray User ID: 977150 Canada 08/09/2010 12:10 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I hear whining about those who have small or miniature dogs allowing them to run a big distance at a wild place where at night coyotes have the right of territory and get confused and would think a small animal are prey. Don't tempt them by keeping smallest dogs up and not out at night at all. Usually such people choosing to have a small dog run far become their own problem.
