Re: the concept of time (the happening)
i don't believe you can travel back in time

but you can 'sort of' time travel into the future

if you could leave the planet and accelerate sufficiently, when you come back you can 'skip time'

like, leave for 10 years and when you come back 100 years has past

that's about the closest i think we will ever get to 'time travel'

Re: the concept of time (the happening)
If time travel were possible to the past, I dont think it would be useful. In my thinking, the act of using the time machine takes you out of the effect of normal time-space temporarily (given the idea you have to practically punch a hole in the fabric of space like a wormhole with massive energy). Even ONE second back in time gives very bad results- think about how fast the Earth is moving.. plus the Sun/Solar System.. plus the galaxy! Any movement in time and thus stepping off the gravitational pull sticking us to this planet into your own bubble, is going to leave you millions of miles away from the Earth- wherever the Earth was in space at that time.

I think the passage of time is related to the enormous speed we are traveling at thru the fabric of the universe, compared to a dead stop. In fact, perspectively, if one were able to come to a dead stop, you would see the entire universe's contents speeding by, in a blinding white glare.

..how old do you think light is by the time it reaches us from a star....

if it has to do with speed, thats as fast as it gets...

they should figure out the mathematical equation on how fast you have to go....and how far in the future

so in your logic
the faster you move the faster time is flowing
(rather, you are flowing threw time)

and the earth moving around is making time happen to everyone as a whole because we are all riding on it...so it seems relevant to all

does that mean...if you get off the earth and find out how to completely stop..(which would be hard to do w/o drifting away...or can you stop in space...how do you know when you aren't moving).....

if you can stop...would time?

i wouldnt like the discussion if it didnt confuse me.

i only tend to focus on things that have no real answer...because those are the questions that need to be answered.

You can't see time for the same reason a fish can't see the water its in.

Every metaphore has its limits.

You're saying time does not exist.

I'd like to say that space does not exist either but it is pretty darned important to our reality.

Re: the concept of time (the happening)

No one has ever seen a perfect circle, nor a perfectly straight line, yet everyone knows what a circle and a straight line are.
Perceived circles or lines are not exactly circular or straight, and true circles and lines could never be detected since by definition they are sets of infinitely small points.
