Yep, those wily thugocrats using Amnesty International as witnesses. These are the guys who admitted this last week that when they called Gitmo a gulag, they did not even know what they were talking about. Yep, real fine bunch of patriots there.

This is sort of a synopsis of what happened:

"Sixteen provisions of the USA Patriot Act automatically sunset (expire) at the end of the year unless reauthorized by Congress. As such, the Judiciary Committee is holding hearings on the reauthorization of the USA Patriot Act.


The hearing this morning was the first time in roughly ten years that the minority on the Judiciary Committee has been forced to invoke its right to continue hearings in order to have its own witnesses.


Earlier this week, the Chairman, scheduled a series of hearings on the reauthorization of the USA Patriot Act, however, many of the hearings were on non-controversial parts of the Act. The hearings did not address some really obvious and important issues like section 215, which authorizes FBI access to library records and racial profiling. In an amazing slight, the only witness the Chairman would allow was the Deputy Attorney General of the United States who, of course, supports the permanent enactment of the Act. THE MINORITY DID NOT GET TO CALL A SINGLE WITNESS.


In response, the Judiciary Committee Democrats invoked Rule11 of the House rules allowing us to request our own hearing, which the Chairman held this morning, on a Friday, even though the House adjourned on Thursday and most members had returned to their districts."

It´s amazing how bold they are getting and it´s sad that most Americans do not realize that history is repeating itself... this is something that my have happened 70 years ago in Germany yet we are expected to just wave our plastic flags and think the government is good, no matter what they do.

I hope they filibuster everything that is throwing us into fascism-I know there are puppet masters behind both parties but not all in either party are down with this...may they move with convictions and may they be aware of the consequences they will lock in by their action or inaction-this is despotism-I have deep convictions on this and I can back them up-or die trying

True I am constantly e mailing letters and also signing various petitions to stop this pillaging. People need to respond with major outrage-it will only get worse rapidly without any action.

Thanks, John! I already sent email to CNN, giving them heck, because I couldn´t find any reference to this on their website. You can certainly believe I will be contacting some of these politicians, especially Sensenbrenner.

Sorry! We need to find a way to keep them from renewing the parts of the Patriot Act that will expire soon. That will help (somewhat) keep them from cracking down on us.

The so called religious conservatives remind me of what the brown shirts must have been like back during the rise of Nazism... blind devotion to a total evil concept to the point of being delusional. Of course, most of the brown shirts met their end in the Night of the Long Blades, I believe, after their usefulness to the Nazi Party came to an end.
