Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1068880Podner, if you have pain I strongly recommend having that issue treated. Root canals mean that you have an infection in the base of the tooth. The only solutions that I know of is drilling or extraction. The pain of an infection in the base of the tooth can be severe and it is dangerous because it can spread all along the jaw line if it is not treated. The issue I bring up is that if the gums are deliberately caused to retract along the base of the tooth, that opens the tooth up to easy infection. That is what the Dentists are doing with their "extensive treatments" of the gum line. 1st Place in Novel Sales for 6 yrs! [link to www.mobipocket.com] |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 592518 United States 08/15/2010 11:57 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OP, YUP! I've felt this way a long time about their "cleanings" in general, and not even just the extensive ones. I allowed the ultrasonic "extensive cleaning" done a few years ago and now my gums are totally Fcked up! To be fair, I have some other infections going on now but I believe the extensive cleaning has pulled apart the gum line. It probably causes periodontal disease too. Even the regular cleanings with that ultrasonic cleaning thing does not FEEL right on the teeth. I KNOW they are doing damage with that thing. |

Mickeyblue User ID: 1068894 United States 08/15/2010 12:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Actually it is not the gum line that is the target, it is below it and they 'scrape, both around the root of the tooth to the extent of how deeply eroded it is in cleaning but under periodontal surgery they scrape that and the bone around it. It is impossible to ever clean out porous bone to restore complete health and inflammation or infection free conditions once that has become established and in this process for the period of time that it 'works' your gums do recede(not retract) and swelling goes down to make it more apparent of the recession. I think that your dad may have had a clue but presently, there has been little offered to address this other than the above. Your entire health is subject to what is going on in your dental health and heart attacks being a disease of inflammation are also tied into this. Good subject and maybe a clue that you do better when being honest and trying to do something well meaning. |

Once done the only answer is repeated expensive crown treatment...if you can afford it. |
JoeNeubarth (OP) User ID: 752389 United States 08/15/2010 12:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My dentist suggested something like that. I'm talking numerous sessions at a cost of $5,000 total. I just had a bad feeling about it and changed dentists. I've not had a dentist suggest such a thing since and my teeth are fine. BTW: I've never had a single cavity in my life and I'm in my 40s. Quoting: PrincessBrideBottom line is if the Dentist wants to abuse your gum line, do NOT let him or her do it. That is just a way to get your teeth to fall out or become seriously and painfully infected in time. Brush your teeth after eating and floss regularly. Use a mouthwash (or occasionally hydrogen peroxide) to rinse with, and you should not have a cavity problem. The dentists told me that I needed the procedure, but I had that heads up from my Oral Surgeon father and did not do it. My gum line is intact as are my teeth and I have no cavities. It has been two decades now, so it is obvious that there was no need for the procedure. My wife and my sister have had no end of trouble because they let the dentist destroy their gum lines. Asshole dentists are all ripoff artists who don't care how much pain and discomfort they cause as long as they can get fools to keep on coming back for their "horrible teeth problems." They would not have had those "horrible teeth problems" if they did not have that gum line treatment in the first place. Your choice to spit or swallow. Bleeding gums will go away. Your gums will get nice and healthy and tight. Deep pockets in your gums will naturally tighten up. I did this and my dentist thought I was finally flossing. I do not floss. My bleeding gums disappeared. Deep pockets (6mm) were reduced by 50% (3mm) within 4 months. Pennies a day to do this. Again it is your choice whether you spit or swallow. Only used low ppm Colloidal silver (20ppm or less), made properly with distilled water. Your dentist will be amazed. Also if you have dragon breath, this will help cure that too. |

JoeNeubarth (OP) User ID: 752389 United States 08/15/2010 12:40 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Also if you have dragon breath, this will help cure that too. Most bad breath is usually caused by bacteria. Proper oral hygiene will usually take care of that. Do floss as it is important to remove wedged in particles that bacteria propagate on. If you do not leave food particles in your mouth after eating, you will usually not have bad breath. Garlic and stuff like that will always cause offensive odor but that can be from your mouth, throat or from your pores as the odor seems to saturate your whole body if you eat too much. 1st Place in Novel Sales for 6 yrs!
