Re: Does Your Dog Food Include Euthanized Dogs?
Eve, from that *same link* you provided, here is an article an Blue Buffalo Dog Food found on Susan Peters' web site.

Here is what a consumer said about the product for his dog:

Blue Buffalo Dog Food Review

This is an in depth look into the ingredients in Blue Buffalo dog food.

Blue Buffalo dog food is a company that likes to promote their natural and organic dog food ingredients.

When we look at the full list of ingredients for Blue Wilderness dog food we find some interesting things like sweet potatoes and oatmeal. These ingredients are healthy carbohydrates and oatmeal is a much better filler than wheatbran or corn, which are hard to digest. Going farther down the list there are ingredients like blueberries, cranberries, carrots, and barley grass. You wouldn't normally consider these berries and grass to be a natural part of a wild dog's diet but in fact they are. When a dog in the wild eats another animal, that animal usually will have a diet high in grasses, nuts, and grains, so the dog is absorbing the nutrients from the herbivore. These ingredients really set this dog food apart from the rest.[/b[

On top of all of the earlier mentioned quality nutrients in this dog food there is also lots of vitamin supplements for things like A vitamins, vitamin B12, vitamin E, etc. Another source for Omega fatty acids is the herring oil. There is even green tea extract and tumeric, both which have healing and medicinal properties in the Blue Wilderness dog food.

When looking at the full picture of this dog food it gives you a sense that Blue Buffalo cares about the ingredients they are putting in their dog food.

I can see you are not familiar with holistic dog foods. You would not be familiar with brands like Solid Gold, Wysong, California Natural, Blue Buffalo, etc. Theses are holistic foods, not commercial foods.

The food I buy, you can't get in a supermarket. You can only find it in specialty holisitc pet food stores. Blue Buffalo manufactures it's own food on site which is a rarity. This provides for quality control in the ingredients. All ingredients are human grade quality.

It is rated (in holistic circles) as one of the top 5 holistic foods available anywhere. My monthly bill for pet food alone would make your little head spin.

It is obvious that you are not familiar with the holistic pet food, and raw foods arena. Not many people are.

I am very happy and content not only with my holistic approach to feeding, but my animals health is living proof of the degree of care, and the degree of quality in the foods I choose for my pets.

Feed those cats you feed "Fancy Feast", or whatever you like to feed, and I will stick with the holistic approach.

right. It was a review from someone. Just like if I went on and I did a review. I could easily say, ol Roy is so good. But it's just a review.

Blue Buffalo dog food was recalled right along with ol roy. When you refer back to my list of dog foods that were recalled look for the link right after the food that was recalled and click the link to the site. People can do reviews till their blue. Some are just better writers than others but a recalled list is a recalled list.

Science diet was on the recalled list and on every bad list but they are so clever of a pet food company that when the good list of healthy safe foods of Susan Peter's posted was added to the site. Science Diet advertisers slipped in their ad right in the middle of the list. How clever! But as I was copying and pasting the safe list for everyone to read I caught that goof and chuckled how clever market advertisers are and removed the Science diet AD that was in between the safe food list. It was clever! It almost looked like they were apart of the safe list the way they marketed their ad...

Reviews are reviews but if the food blue buffalo was recalled over and over again then someone was lying to you when they said blue buffalo has only safe products AC.

Right! It's a review. AC, just to smooth things out a bit I even researched and found the 2010 recalled unhealthy dog food list. BLUE BUFFALO IS ON THE LIST.

Here's the link to the recalled dog foods for 2010,and again blue buffalo was one of the foods recalled because it did in fact have unhealthy and unsanitary products in it's food. Not only was Blue Buffalo recalled for having unsanitary food but in Susan Peter's safe list for healthy pet food she didn't add Blue Buffalo. Each list I pasted were directly from the site of researchers who specifically wrote a list of bad food and they did a list of good foods. Anyone can do the reviews though. I can get on and even do a review. You quoted the wrong link to the recalled pet food from Susan Peters and researchers who recalled the different dog foods.

Re: Does Your Dog Food Include Euthanized Dogs?
Thankfully, it is now illegal for remains of cats and dogs to be added to pet foods. They can still put all kinds of other awful things in though. For example, the rancid meat that spoils in stores can be sold to dog food manufacturers. They dump the whole thing in the vat, Styrofoam tray and plastic wrap included. And they deliberately "render" meat for animals' food to distinguish it from people supply by breaking it down in harsh chemicals. Most dog foods are a death sentence for you pal. Your best options are to feed a balanced, homemade diet or a very good quality dog food, like Evo, or something certified organic.

Whatever brand, meat meal should be the first ingredient, followed by at least one or two more sources of meat. Grains, if any, should be things like brown rice, NOT corn (which is typically corn cobs and fillers). Meat meal is better than meat because it has the water removed. Both are measured by the ounce, so if your food says lamb, not lamb meal, it means the bastards used the water weight to bulk up the supposed meat content.

Btw, do you know the origins of pet food? In the early 1930s, Purina had a warehouse full of rancid meat. General Mills had a silo full of rotted grain. They decided to put the two together and market "convenient" pet food. Disgusting!

Soft spot for stray animals?

And, you spend what money you do have to buy good food for cats that are not even your own pets?

You must have a big heart.

That is nice you posted the article. :)

Well, my sister has this big dog but she never listens to me about the things I read. She get's IAMS but the dog breaks out in weird rashes and his butt swells up and roids out a lot. I like it old school style when it comes to feeding a big dog thats as tall as my hip. What's so wrong with buying a huge sack of white rice and regular meat from the butcher?

They love the gravy, rice, and meat mix. I would just go easy on the rice and give them good portions of a lean meat. But that's just my opinion if I can ever have a home for a big dog.

If I ever got a big dog then I would live alone with him and can afford white rice and butcher shop meats. Lamb, chicken breast. That's all good for dogs!
 Quoting: Eve_2000bc

Buy him brown rice instead. It's more stable for blood sugar and gives him fiber. ;-)

Iam's and Science Diet got to be the #1 recommended pet foods because they reward vets who push it with vacations and prizes, like a week in Hawaii for the vet who sells the most poison in a year.

Here is a link to "Dog Food Advisor."

"Blue Buffalo Wilderness Dry Dog Food receives the Advisor’s top rating of five stars"

Enthusiastically recommended.

Review:

"Blue Wilderness, by the Blue Buffalo Company, is one of the best dog foods I've found thus far."

[link to www.petfoodratings.net]

Blue Buffalo Wilderness also rates highly with Eng, and he calls it "one of the best dog foods I've found thus far." DogFoodAdvisor.com gives Blue Buffalo Wilderness Duck Recipe its highest rating for its top-quality ingredients, high protein content, inclusion of probiotics and use of chelated minerals, which are easier to absorb. The top ingredients are deboned duck, chicken meal, potato starch, turkey meal, peas, chicken fat and potatoes.

Okay, I think that settles it.

There's more, but I think that's enough.

Have a nice day Eve.

Hi. This food is great stuff. I just switched my two German Shepherds over from Wellness Complete Health to the Wilderness Grain Free by Blue Buffalo, after a lot of back and forth thinking about it. Don't be discouraged, you are doing the best by your little guys.

My brother feeds his dogs garbage (Science Diet) and they are at the vet all the time. All kinds of infections and problems. There's a reason Vets' sell that junk. Keeps them in business. I've tried to explain to my brother the food is to blame for all the problems. He shrugs his shoulders and tells me all pet food is the same. Arrrrgh. But you know how it goes......in one ear, out the other.

Anywho, around here people don't listen either. LOL.

Where do you buy your food? Do you know about this place? [link to www.petfooddirect.com]

IAMS and science diet were on many recalled unsanitary unhealthy dog foods list. You guys replying aren't reading the lists before you suggest dog food brands.

You know the more I research I found a good dog food. It's called, "Canidae"

and it was on the safe list. It was never recalled and my sister uses that brand for her dog. I just went in the kitchen to check again and then looked at the safe list for dogs. I'm kinda warming up to that brand. I would consider it!

It's illegal but unfortunately Blue Bufflo,IAMS,science diet, and Eukanuba are still putting toxic things in their foods and the only thing they get is fined for lying and their food gets temporarily recalled. You know like the egg situation. People had to get sick and die before they started recalling the eggs. Same with the poor dogs and cats.

And you aren't reading what I wrote. First w/ the reply about the illegality of the euthanized animals in the food, where I commented they still put tons of nasty other chemicals in the food, and this reply. I said the only reason those brands got #1 spots is because the companies bribe vets with rewards for selling the most shit food. The main ingredient in both of those foods is corn, unless they've changed something in the past couple of years, since I researched the issue for my dogs.

I prefer to feed my dogs a homemade diet, which I supplement with a mix of Evo Red Meat kibble and Flint River Ranch--both of which were never recalled.

I just did the bad food list and again I will now do the safe list. Please do read if you have dogs!!! If you want the safe list and the bad food list for cats then please refer to page 2 of this thread and read my lists from a team of researchers who recalled food and inspected them all. They documented both the lists!

The life span of your pet should be at least 20 years. Your pet's diet strongly influences your pet's life expectancy. Always look for a quality pet food which scores 10 out of
10.

Re: Does Your Dog Food Include Euthanized Dogs?
Canidae is manufactured by Diamond Foods. I'd look into that company very carefully before I purchase Canidae.

But, since you seem to know it all already, doubt you care what anyone has to say.

Canidae is on the safe list. I already researched it. It never made the recalled list and it was on the safe list.

Yeah, ok.

Look into Diamond Foods (who now owns that brand BTW) if you care about your pets.

Or, don't.

I'm not going to bother posting links to the multiple lawsuits and complaints for you.

+1 As you said in a previous post, the OP already knows everything, so there's no reason for him to actually read replies and comprehend what people are saying.

I know. It's ridiculous.

Sounds like your dogs are well cared for. I commend you. I do what you do too, and make homemade foods. I cook turkeys and feed raw liver to my Shepherds sometimes, even though I am vegetarian myself. They eat raw veggies and sweet potato too. What do you make?

dogs and cats are meat eaters...
this is their nature.

now feeding dead cows to cows is another story.
cows are herbivores and are being forced to become cannibals.
THAT is dangerous.

anything with SOY in it will make their poop stink bad...

Did you know that dog and cat meat was used in Purina Pro one select and in some other brands like IAMS, Alpo, Eukanuba, and Science Diet ???

They use dead dog and cat meat for their products. Your fellow dog and kitty are cannibals if you feed them those brands.

I prefer to feed my dogs a homemade diet, which I supplement with a mix of Evo Red Meat kibble and Flint River Ranch--both of which were never recalled.

Re: Does Your Dog Food Include Euthanized Dogs?
Thanks for this updated list, OP. hf

I used to have a list a few years ago and lost it.

I just lost my beautiful pussycat of 16 years, last Saturday. He had diabetes for four years, plus a host of other things. I am certain it was the crap in the food that I WAS feeding him that made him that way...

My beautiful dog (American Shepherd) developed "Cushings Disease" which is an adrenal insufficiency at eight years old!! HOW the F*&% does THAT happen??

The last six months she was alive I was feeding her raw meats and veggies, and she loved it, but it was too little, too late...

It makes perfect sense to me that eliminating as many animals as possible is a goal of TPTB, since they want to eliminate the humans too... who'd care for all those animals?

SICK. SICK. SICK.

I did research it. Look at my lists by the researchers who did the study.
 Quoting: Eve_2000bc

Eve - it sounds like you research Canidae but did NOT research Diamond Pet Foods.

Toxic pet food may have killed dozens of dogs
Diamond Pet Foods recalled 19 varieties due to contamination
[link to www.msnbc.msn.com]

Diamond introduced Diamond Naturals in 2006. These products contain no by-products, corn, or wheat. They also manufacture Bright Bites brand dental treats, Taste of the Wild brand pet food, and Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul brand dog and cat food.

They also manufacture under contract, for other companies, at least some of the pet foods sold under these brands or business names.

* Canidae Pet Food
* Costco's Kirkland Signature
* Solid Gold Health Products for Pets
* Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance Pet Foods
* Taste of the Wild Pet Foods

[link to en.wikipedia.org]

For people that really want to do right by their pets - if you use the above foods, then you should contact them and find out if Diamond is involved in the manufacturing of that food and to what extent.

Do you own research on Diamond and decide if you trust them with your pets food and how to what extent.

Example - IIRC, Natural Balance, supplies all their own ingredients and uses Diamond for processing and packaging. So, you have to find out if the packaging line is exclusively for Natural Balance or shared. Are there any "common" ingredients that are used by all the other lines or is everything exclusive to NB only. Do you trust Diamond to properly clean the equipment if the line is shared?

It may seem ridiculous to go to such an extent - but it was these types of questions that forced the hands of MANY pet food companies to issue recalls during the melamine recalls. It was the consumer that pushed them to find out how their own products were being handled by Diamond, Menu and other packaging plants. We forced them to look at cross contamination possibilities - either through unclean equipment, via the air or even warehousing with contaminated items.

Since the recall - the best of the companies will know the answers and not even have to get back to you. If they don't know, or just try to give standard placating non-answers - then DON'T buy their food.

Eve - I know you're focused on the euthanized animal portion. You just need to realize that the problem with pet foods is MUCH larger than just that part.

Your list of 'safe' foods is great, as far as it goes. But one does need to go even deeper in the research. :o\

I'm very against Diamond pet. It has been recalled so many times but the truth AC is that "Canidae" dog food has never been recalled. That list I posted was a 2010 recall list.

If it was recalled then I wouldn't give it to my sisters dog,but it's not only a brand that has never been recalled. It's also on the safe list which was researched and analyzed by researchers who tested the food.

Money does go a long way AC,and people could buy the researchers out but certainly Diamond pet food company didn't have enough cause the researchers posted every brand by the diamond pet food company and said it was recalled. Not only did the researchers recall it,but they also didn't add it to the healthy safe list.

That's a pretty damn disturbing video.
It's hard to believe that Humans could be so awful, and souless as to feed our beloved pets, the dead of their own kind.
I also can't believe that Vets. sell the frozen, drug filled/diseased pets to these places.
Makes them just as fuckin' heartless as the manufacturing plant owners!

Ya know, it's no wonder Humans are gonna end up like we are...we deserve to die for all the bad shit we have/are doing!

After watching that video...my animals aren't gonna be eating that crap anymore.
I'll do like I used to do....help the Taxidermy guy process Deer,during/after the season, and keep the best scraps for the animals.
