Are pitbull owners smoking crack? why do they keep on insisting their dogs are cuddly furballs?
6-foot 3-inch, 300-pound Iraq war veteran mauled by Pit Bulls

The adversarial relationship between mail carriers and dogs is well-known.

But as two pit bulls tore relentlessly into Bryan Bloomquist's arms and legs outside a north Minneapolis house Tuesday, the mail carrier didn't think about clichés. He thought about dying.

"I had no fight left in me at that point," said Bloomquist, a 6-foot 3-inch, 300-pound Iraq war veteran said from his hospital bed Wednesday. "I thought it was over."

It almost was. Bloomquist, 31, of Mounds View, ended up with 41 wounds, which took hours of trauma surgery and stitching to close.

He said the dogs attacked him a good five minutes while neighbors tried beating them back with yard signs, a bat, even a car. Police eventually shot and killed the dogs when they charged officers who arrived at the scene in the 3300 block of Colfax Avenue N.

Minneapolis Animal Care and Control cited the dogs' owner, Otello Pitts, 48, for failure to license the dogs, failure to properly leash them and failure to vaccinate them for rabies, totaling $475 in fines.

Animal Control manager Dan Niziolek said he also could face criminal charges for harm caused by a dog. Records indicate officers have not had contact with the dogs or their owner in the past, Niziolek said.

A phone number for Pitts was not in service. No one answered the door at the house, which had a "Beware of Dog" sign in the window. Blood on a fence across the street showed where the dogs cornered Bloomquist and he slumped against it.

Neighbors say the dogs, each 9 months old, had occasionally run loose in the neighborhood but were not known to be aggressive toward people. Children lived in the house with them.

Bloomquist said he survived because of his size, his instincts and help from the people who heeded his screams.

It is a strange strange delusion, and every pit-owner I've known has suffered from it. Absolutely without exception.

Yep, something strange about it alright. Inlaws have 2, but they can't be boarded and have already bitten 2 people. Take the fucking things everywhere with them.

Re: Are pitbull owners smoking crack? why do they keep on insisting their dogs are cuddly furballs?
Any dog can become aggressive. But when a pitbull becomes aggressive, it can cause a lot of damage because of the bite pressure of the jaws and the natural tendencies of the animal (they are hog or bear fighting dogs).

Most pitbulls are owned by scumbags who work to make them aggressive--even if they are just playing rough with the dog or playing tug of war.

The difference between a standard poodle and a pitbull is usually the type of person who owns the dog and how the dog was raised. And a standard poodle could go all crazy and attack someone but the damage would be less. And no inflammatory article would be written about the crazed killer poodle.

Inflamatory article? LOLOLOLOLOL! Fuck me runnin'!

Back in the 80's near Enfield, New Hampshire, a 60 something yr. old woman was out walking and two stray pits attacked and tore her to ribbons. I happened to talk to a deputy sheriff who'd responded, and he said it was worse than any fatal car accident he'd ever responded to. The woman's guts were strewn 30 feet down the road from her body.

Fuck the "inflammatory article" bullshit, Jack. The only good pitbull is a dead one.

know a guy that rescued a pit bull. the former owners had chained it and left it except to put food out. the dog grew and his neck grew around the chain. the fellow that rescued the pit spent thousands of dollars on vet bills to get the dog healthy.

thing is, this is one of the sweetest dogs i've ever seen. he should hate all of humanity, but he wants to be friends with anyone he meets.

and no, i don't own a pit.

Only people with an IQ less that 85 own Pit Bulls. These animals are simply unpredictable. Remember to a person who has "less than average" intelligence everything is unpredictable...so to them their behavior is just like everything else in the world....

Thankyou, a pit-bull is no different from any other dog - NO I don't own one but I plenty who do and they are beautiful placid dogs just like their owners!

If a dog is vicious, look to the owner and you'll see why - irrespective of breed!

Re: Are pitbull owners smoking crack? why do they keep on insisting their dogs are cuddly furballs?
I have several friends who have pitbulls and they are really friendly dogs. More likely to lick you to death than bite you. I think as is the case with most types of bull terriers from pitts to staffs, there is a direct correlation between the temperament of the dog, and the temperament of the owner.

Sadly most people who buy these sorts of dogs tend to be idiots who think their dog is a fashion accessory and something that will give them street credit. They bring the dogs up to be aggressive so they can show off to the other idiots they hang around with.

If you go on Craigslist, the only puppies for sale anymore are fucking pits. It's what makes me angry. they are the ones breeding them to be fighting dogs. Since the invasion of illegal mexican criminals and drug dealers, this has gotten far worse since those idiots love dog and rooster fights.

From ED TV (1999)

I feel that Ed (TV) is the apotheosis of a prevailing American syndrome. It used to be that someone became famous because they were special. Now people are considered special just for being famous. Fame, itself, is now a moral good in this country. It's its own virtue.

No, you only hear about extreme mauling cases on the news (you won't hear about a simple dog nip), and since pits have incredibly strong jaws, their bites cause a lot more damage, and yes, they probably do attack more often than other dogs, however, if you think of the sheer number of pitbulls in homes, and the very small amount of mauling incidents, it's still less than 1% of pitbulls who do this.

I've known a lot of pitbulls in my time, and out of them all - only one was truly mean, and that was because his owners treated him like shit.

That's a fact, jack. You can throw out an many anecdotes and "statistics" as you like, but I know what I've seen - and all I've seen are bad owners, never bad dogs.

Story from the farm...I lost a dog to coyotes once..

They lure your dog with a hot female coyote at the edge of the fields...then 'bang' big ambush.

Was so pissed I shot to biggest one and hung him from a tree with is legs cut-off. Was quiet for a while...now they are back.

I find low-lifes are generally attracted to owning dogs of particular breeds - like fighting dogs. You don't see too many wannabe tough guys, trailer-trash, drug dealers or welfare types that own dachsunds or pomeranians.

So it's hard to tell whether it's the dog or the owner.

Amazingly enough in our city we have a law about not being able to own pit bulls, yet I see them all the time in the city. Our county is too poor to spend money to take them though, so they leave the pits where they are. I'd never own one.
