HARDCORE PAWN TV Show - Irony in only second Episode
Well, its another pawn shop tv show. Stuck in the same vein as PAWN STARS, and American Pickers, this Hardcore Pawn stars the owner, and his son and daughter running a business
of making money off of another person's ignorance or misfortune. Sadly, its completely legal. Just like Check Cashing stores, Rent to Own Centers, and cheap used car lots that know exactly what they are doing when financing a cheap car to someone a paycheck away from the car lot repossessing it, suing the guy, and then putting the same car back out on the lot for the next missfortunate uneducated soul. Yes, Credit Card companys. Oh, did I mention Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac home loans to people who were biting off more than they could chew, but had no idea of that fact.
In this country its legal. There are so many people out there that will take advantage of anyone that they can.

So, first episode,, this owner lowballs everyone that they can get on camera, and throws out whoever isn't satisfied with his intent on saving every buck he can on the items that people bring in.

The second Episode, someone actually threatened him, so he wants to buy his family handguns... heh. So off to the gun store, where the Gun Store owner gives them (and the freekin' camera crew) the full treatment, and probably comps their ammo. The gun store owner is giving the guy a great discount on these guns, and the Pawn Guy is even trying to get a deal on the stupid $60 holtsers they are buying too. Unbelievable. His need to be greedy about maybe knocking off another $20 on the entire purchase of about $3 grand of guns got his ass thrown out of the gun store. That Gun Store owner was Pissed! He threw this guy, his family, and the camera crew OUT!.
This Pawn Store owner got what was coming to him. This is the way he treats everyone else that comes into his shop. If this greedy slimeball would have just Paid Retail and shut the hell up, he would have been fine, AND respected.
You should watch this guy, he's a pawn shop slimeball, his son may possibly be gay, and his daughter grew up in the shop, but still dosen't have too much of a clue of working the deal, and she has to add something to Everyone's business deals, even though most of the time she has no business nosing in because she don't know what shes looking at or talking about.
These are my two cents.
Respect the person you do business with, and you will have his business, and respect again. Burn someone for your own raw greed and profit, and you will be seen for exactly who you are.
This pawn guy will show his true colors every time you see someone disrespect him. He needs to think that he is the most important person, although this is only true at his business. Anywhere else, people could care less about his ass and what he thinks.
People, you must remember, IF YOU SET FOOT INTO A PAWN SHOP, YOU HAVE ALREADY LOST. Sell your stuff on Craigslist.
Cheers.

Yes, the shows are for entertainment, so they have to do some extra things...its called reality tv. It blows me asway about the ignorance of people and the stereotypes of pawn shops. I have run one for 9 years...yes its true we are NOT NON PROFIT organizations!!! Imagine that...but i'm sure you don't have a problem with convenience stores!! IDIOTS. Just a little FYI on people thinking pawn shops rip you off, listen to this. Ok, so I buy a ps3 from someone for 100 dollars and sell it for 200....ok cool....yes thats profit, not a rif off. When you buy the ps3 at a walmart or somewhere, they probably paid 20-30dollars for it and sold it for 300.........now tell me who makes the profit!! ALso we give people an opportunity to get there stuff back for less than 20 dollars on a 100 dollar loan...break that down monthly...10 dollars a month.........hmmmmmm....sound like pretty dang low interest to me, to get cash RIGHT NOW!!! Educate yourselves before you speak PLEASE!!! For everyones sake, the pawn business is a very hard to get rich scheme!! Takes A LOT of money(not credit, but cash) to get a shop going.....there are days where we put out thousands of dollars and only take in several hundred!!! YOU HAVE NO IDEA!!!

Re: HARDCORE PAWN TV Show - Irony in only second Episode
Trying to compare the buying practices of a Retail Business with a Pawn Shop is rediculous. You will never see a store owner out the back door haggling with the truck driver about the final price a shipment before he drops the delivery at a retail store. You can't compare ordering from a distributor for a retail store, (and also backing those products after selling them) to trying to get the lowest price you can for a PS3 that some dude probably stole or took from someone that owed him for drugs. Most people that took their ass down to the local pawn shop basicly are at the point of no where else to turn for money. These pawn shops know it, and they hardball because of this well known fact.
Look, if you bring cameras into your business, you are ASKING for it.

Having worked in Network Television and having four family members still in it (2 producers and 2 actors) I can say that although I appreciate your theory, it is not always the case.

Have you ever worked in television, radio or any entertainment field? Really it is a constant struggle for ratings and fighting the exec's to keep your slot or get a better one. I have on sets where after taping for the day the EP has to tell everyone the show has been canceled.

The producers are not really even in control as it is "CORPORATE" that decides...this may be more in alignment with what you are saying as they pay you the check and will approve or not approve what you got in the can (footage) or script changes, but the reality television producers spend sometimes 7 days a week dealing with complete bullshit and yes they have to "CREATIVELY" come up with things to keep the show entertaining...life is not always exciting and new with dilemmas and edited. :-)

I worked a few pawn/auction shops in my day. interesting times.

chill out. they are not stealing a thing, they are offering what they want to pay, the person can either take it or leave it. the purpose of these places is to get money for whatever reason, quickly. not to get original value

Re: HARDCORE PAWN TV Show - Irony in only second Episode
Just look at the ratings for the show. Just Look!

HARDCORE PAWN Delivers 2 Million Viewers, Setting New Record as truTV’s Most-Watched Series Premiere Ever
truTV’s latest original series, HARDCORE PAWN, debuted Monday at 10 p.m. (ET/PT) with 2 million viewers; 1 million adults 18-49; and 568,000 men 18-49, setting new records in all three categories as the network’s biggest series premiere ever.

With its 1,987,000 viewers and 968,000 adults 18-49, the premiere of HARDCORD PAWN topped previous marks held by truTV’s Southern Fried Stings, which debuted April 12 with 1,743,000 viewers and 862,000 adults 18-49. Among men 18-49, the premiere episode topped truTV’s previous series premiere record set by Black Gold, which garnered 566,000 in June 2008.

HARDCORE PAWN’s second episode at 10:30 p.m. (ET/PT) held firm from the premiere, with 1,780,000 viewers; 882,000; adults 18-49; and 550,000 men 18-49.

“HARDCORE PAWN’s outstanding premiere-night performance has gotten this new series off to a great start,” said Marc Juris, executive vice president and general manager of truTV. “Last night’s premiere is the latest example of how truTV continues to strengthen its brand through programming that really resonates with both total viewers and key demos.”

HARDCORE PAWN provides a behind-the-scenes look at life inside one of the country’s largest pawn shops. The series takes viewers into the zany and sometimes volatile world of Detroit’s American Jewelry and Loan, where a wide assortment of people bring in everything from alligators to prosthetic limbs. Each pawn ticket has a story, and there are more than 45,000 stories in the warehouse. The Gold family and their employees never know what to expect when people’s personal items are on the line. As each episode of this fascinating series reveals, haggling over a price can quickly escalate into an all-out conflict.

HARDCORE PAWN comes to truTV from RDF USA. The series is executive-produced by Natalka Znak, Claire O’Donohoe and Richard Dominick. Marcus Fox serves as co-executive producer. For truTV, Anthony Horn is executive producer.

This is what dumbed-down Americans accept now for TV.

Get another beer, glass of wine. drink and zone-out . . .

As long as they're stupid enough to watch it the corporate-controlled networks will just shovel more and more.

That show sucks. It's a rip off of Pawn Stars. The owner is a complete jerk.

Pawn Stars is entertaining because of the historical significance of the objects being pawned. Hardcore Pawn is just staged drama without any educational benefit.

I know the ratings are high but so are the ratings for American Idol.

Just watched the Hardcore Pawn show.

The owner lives up to every stereotype of the crooked-nosed pawnbroker. The daughter is the symbol of the spoiled American Princess. And the son, well, I'd suggest he check his closet.

At least on Pawn Stars, the guys come across as humans.

"The Detroit store is owned by the appropriately named Les Gold. His operation is enormous: 50,000 square feet, the largest in the city and much larger than the “Pawn Stars” shop. They have 45 employees and 1,000 customers a day. They do, on average, 700 loans a day and buy 20 items straight out."

this show is so pathetic..

poor black folk slappin it up in the parking lot over shitty ol TV's and VCR's..all while chanting "WE LOVE DETROIT !!!"

also, jeez, the conditioning that we are getting with these shows.

Why is it that the networks are parading out jagoffs for their reality series?

Look at the fat ass bully in Gold Rush Alaska
or "Dave Hester" from Storage Wars (the newest Biggest asshole on TV).

Now this guy on the Hardcore Auction show.

A note to TV people.
We viewers do not like these people.
We share no identity with them.
We would like to see them get their asses kicked.

I can't watch any of these shows.
I get too pissed off and flip the channel.

So TV people, you are having the very opposite effect from what you intended.

Bullshit, pawnshops are bloodsuckers that are greedy parasites. They buy stolen goods for pennies on the dollar, size up a person for how desperate they appear and rip them off accordingly. I don't know how many times I've seen a used item for more than I could get it new elsewhere. And the people who work in these places, don't get me started.
Profit is one thing, 200% profit is greed. IMHO pawn shops encourage criminals to steal and take advantage of the unfortunate, they should be legislated out of business

Now whenever there is a storage auction anywhere there are hundreds of people at them because of that show. People driving by swerve to pull over and get out and take pictures. Or they honk and wave as they drive by. It's funny really.

You can get good stuff of course. But if you figure how many people lose their unit, and the percentage of those that are Walmart shoppers hitting hard times vs. a hoarder hiding guns and gold...well you be the judge.

But they are fun. A lot of work too though.

Filmed in the heart of Detroit City = Tons of unemployed uneducated blacks with lots of drugs floating around.

You can't expect Les Gold to be polite to crazy jacked up people coming into his store that want to scream and holler, and can't understand what's happening.

They pay a decent price for average items, and try to double or triple their money on them.

However if you bring in something rare that you don't know the value of. Like a old toy pedal car worth 1000's they will low ball you to nothing and laugh about it.

At the same time they seem to have a soft spot for people that are acutally having a rough time and are honest and polite about it.

Having said all that, Hardcore pawn is definetly one of my favorite shows, and I never miss an episode!
