Computer Question--Laptop for wife. | |
Tessa-glp User ID: 1045076 United States 08/18/2010 02:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | you know, a lot of people have told me negative things about Gateway computers... BUT! The first computer I ever bought was a gateway and it lasted almost 7 years. They laptop my daughter has now is a Gateway, about 5 years old...HEAVY use since i bought it...still runs really well So i'd recommend a Gateway "Whether this song is about sex, drugs, or Ramen Noodles, it's moving. And you can bet your ass that you can fuck to it" |

My wife is going to our new house with her mom for a week to set it up and wants/needs a laptop to take. I usually take care of all the puter problems we have. Daughters and wife always changing shit- downloading god knows how much trash. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 276543I was looking at Dells and Toshiba but there are so many out there. I really want to get her a used macbook -or Macpro like I go our daughter but she doesn't want an Apple. Have no idea why. She is not very computer literate . If you could please throw out some products you or friends have used that are good. Looking to spend between $600.00-700.00. Dells are pretty good in that price range. I don't like Toshiba, they used to be a player in laptops but not anymore. Apples are good for non tech users, and supporting them is easier. Windows base PC's have a lot of badware problems that you won't have with Apple. |

aldpam User ID: 1070880 United States 08/18/2010 02:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | As far as your wife and daughter changing things and downloading things, why not get a laptop, set yourself up with an admin. account on it, since you always have to take care of their mistakes, and set them up with limited accounts so they can't change things. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1065268 United States 08/18/2010 02:31 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have a Toshiba and love it! I also have a MacBook Pro, and love that. Anonymous Coward User ID: 1006414 United States 08/18/2010 02:41 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | What is she going to use it for ... and what operating system is she used to? To replace a crashed laptop I recently bought a new Lenovo (the old IBM Thinkpad line) with Windows XP for two reasons ... Windows XP being the main one (all my office computers are still running XP and I wanted continuity) AND the Lenovo's have a reputation for holding up well. I got the cheapest one available ... and waited until it was on sale ... and I think I spent $550 for it from Microcenter. (a computer superstore with about 12-15 stores nationwide) If it is strictly for traveling use the small Netbooks make MUCH more sense since they are so much smaller and lighter ... but alas they do run slower, MUCH slower. I have one of those which is strictly a "road machine" for short term trips, or multi flight trips only. (I needed full functionality because of some business software I HAVE to use at times so I needed a Windows operating enviroment also). I am considering the new Apple iPad since it is also light weight and does much of what I need done, alas it won't run some of our business's software that I need access to when on the road. For a non business user though it may be your best option since it seems to be a great Internet Access type of machine. |

She wants to be able to cruise the net and skype for what its worth. The problem being that she will drop this like a hot rock when she gets home then I will pick it up so it has to be more functional. |
