Why is Elijah expected to return at Passover ?

In Malachi 4:5 it says,
"Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD."
The Jewish Bible has three chapters of Malachi, so what we call Malachi 4:5...they call Malachi 3:23.

Each year at Passover, the Seder dinner table has a reserved setting for Elijah the prophet to return to earth at that time. After the four cups of the Seder dinner have been received, there is a fifth cup called the Cup of Elijah, received in expectation of his return.

We know that this is a Jewish custom or tradition. But how did this custom get started in the first place ?

Well each Sabbath day, there are certain prayers said and certain Bible verses read. The Jewish sages long ago had portioned out sections of the Torah for each Sabbath Day. This section per Sabbath is called the "haftarah".
The portion of Malachi 4 fell upon the Great Sabbath (Shabbat ha'Gadol) which is the Sabbath service preceding Passover.

Since every year the prophecy of Elijah's return was read and pondered just prior to the celebration of Passover, then it became customary to look for Elijah's return at Passover. Surely God seems to indicate so, since nothing occurs by accident in God's universe.

The end of the Feast of Tabernacles is celebrated for 2 days. It could be Tishri 22 or 23. So you wont know the day or the hour but you can generally know the time. :) But only time will tell but the beginning of the Great Tribulation starting Oct. 21st, 2011 and ending April 4th, 2015 makes a lot of sense in a variety of different ways.

Can't wait that long- doom must come sooner!

Date-setting is probably wrong, but being aware of the signs of the times is ADVISED by the Bible.

I was always intrigued by Harold Camping's date of Oct. 21st, 2011. Never thought much of his May 21st, 2011 Judgement Day or Rapture date. Didn't make much sense and the math, numerology and logic was fuzzy to arrive at that date.

But Oct. 21st, 2011 was very interesting. I than though to myself, ok, wonder if the Great 1260 day Tribulation begins on that day, where would 1260 days end??? You get to April 4th, 2015 which is Passover and the Blood Red Moon, and it directly correlates to exactly what it says in Revelation 11. I mean, the puzzle completely fits!

It is SILLY to just be throwing out these meaningless dates for the Rature with NO substance whatsoever.

As said above, only GOD the father knows the time of the Rapture.

There likely will not be a rapture. Just man made misinterpretations but who knows.

Camping thinks he has substance for the May 21st, 2011 rapture date, but it is so silly. There are so many references in the Bible to the so called "rapture" or "resurrection" happening during the Feast of Tabernacles. Harold Camping arrives at May 21st 2011 by taking the 5 months it says in Revelation of the 5 months of Apollyon, and subtracting it by 5 months from Oct. 21st, 2011 to arrive at 5-21-11. He somehow thinks that it is related to Noah's Ark and the 5 months of the flood water prevailing.

Anyway, the logic completely fails on so many levels when it comes to that date. But Oct. 21st, 2011 seems pretty legit. And plugging 1260 days from that point, arrives at a very intriguing date of April 4th, 2015.

Sorry can't happen that day I will be busy, it's my birthday.
