Quoting: Anonymous Coward 38044Faster loading times. Longer battery life. WAY more reliable. unless your computer use is limited to email you need a lot of space. right now you can get a very good 2 terabyte hard drive for $120. [link to www.amazon.com] or you could get a solid state drive for $625 for 256gb - [link to www.amazon.com] or a 1tb solid state drive hard drive for $4167 - [link to www.amazon.com] |

I had similar issues on a dell studio 17, but a lot of the other issues that bug me about this dell seem to be vista related except for the touch panel media functions thing is now broke and I need to open up the lappy and disconnect it. The studio 17 replaced an E170? that went through 5 nvidia discrete graphics cards (I'm avoiding Nvidia based on this for a while longer.) The new dell zino we bought seemed great (uses an amd laptop board) although I've seen what appears to be cheap ram BSODs on it (I wouldn't get any MS OS besides 7, but linux is better than xp at this point).... My 2002 gateway Pentium M with discrete ATI 7500 laptop (ROG something) is all still working and original except for the battery and the CFL (flourescent back light). All of these machines (besides the studio 17 on budget) meet your processing/budget requirements. I just can't recommend any of the cheap laptops when there seem to be QC issues on the high end stuff.... I would recommend a phone or keep waiting on a Meego (nokia OS) based tablet..... Perhaps get a microatx box if it's just moving across the house..... Perhaps look at used LED backlight stuff on Ebay as a typical 3 year flourescent backlight life doesn't lend to buying used laptops - but otherwise the older stuff tends to be better built besides known runs of bad capacitors.... |
