Need reccomendations for a mid priced laptop or netbook
I have a MacBook pro. We need a laptop for my wife. She isn't a gamer but it should he able to run browsergames like armorgames, multiple webpages and word at the same time.
I'm not too familiar with netbooks so I don't really know what they are capable of. She wants something small but again my impression is that a netbook can't handle multiple webpages, and a word document. It's mainly for school and keeping in touch via webcam while away

does anyone have a netbook that they play browser games with? I'll use that as my benchmark. Www.armorgames.com

also can a netbook stream movies fairly well off these bootleg movie streaming sites?(watchmoviesonline)
I dont judge a book by it's cover. I judge it by the things I read.

That would be the first brand to avoid in fact.

I would go with a SSD drive instead of a regular HDD if you don't need huge space.

Faster loading times.
Longer battery life.
WAY more reliable.

Get factory refurbished HP one its better than a new one as they come straight off the line and go out.
The factory repacks have been checked over by techs.

try ebay. get a refurbished laptop. make sure it has at least 4gb of ram and dual processors and windows 7 64 bit or have windows 7 64 bit to install.

unless your computer use is limited to email you need a lot of space. right now you can get a very good 2 terabyte hard drive for $120.

[link to www.amazon.com]

or you could get a solid state drive for $625 for 256gb - [link to www.amazon.com]

or a 1tb solid state drive hard drive for $4167 - [link to www.amazon.com]

Re: Need reccomendations for a mid priced laptop or netbook
I'm afraid my Asus eee 1000ha came with a crappy power supply which was considered an accessory and only 6 month warranty - and the meego universal replacement we bought has had issues too, but the warranty is good on those. I had similar issues on a dell studio 17, but a lot of the other issues that bug me about this dell seem to be vista related except for the touch panel media functions thing is now broke and I need to open up the lappy and disconnect it. The studio 17 replaced an E170? that went through 5 nvidia discrete graphics cards (I'm avoiding Nvidia based on this for a while longer.) The new dell zino we bought seemed great (uses an amd laptop board) although I've seen what appears to be cheap ram BSODs on it (I wouldn't get any MS OS besides 7, but linux is better than xp at this point).... My 2002 gateway Pentium M with discrete ATI 7500 laptop (ROG something) is all still working and original except for the battery and the CFL (flourescent back light). All of these machines (besides the studio 17 on budget) meet your processing/budget requirements.
I just can't recommend any of the cheap laptops when there seem to be QC issues on the high end stuff.... I would recommend a phone or keep waiting on a Meego (nokia OS) based tablet..... Perhaps get a microatx box if it's just moving across the house.....

Perhaps look at used LED backlight stuff on Ebay as a typical 3 year flourescent backlight life doesn't lend to buying used laptops - but otherwise the older stuff tends to be better built besides known runs of bad capacitors....
