Old news. The USG has owned your children and everything you have acquired in your marriage since the implementation of the "Marriage License". By getting a Marriage License and proceeding with the nuptials legally, the USG and the state are the 3rd person in the marriage and thus can share in all that you acquire during the marriage, including children.

Knowing this, now, you ask the state for support.
