PIN: WARNING : SERRAPEPTASE DANGERS OF SELF MEDICATION WITH HERBAL REMEDIES
I want to relay a genuine case to the wider public so if they consider taking this Herbal Drug they understand what the danger are before taking it.

History:

First of all my family are receptive to alternate medicines and we have taken alternate herbal remedies to help ease conditions where NORMAL medicines haven't been able to be taken, IE where allergies to steroids and antibiotics has prevented medication.

My father in Law is 89 he has always believed in self herbal medication and mind over matter.

He recently discovered serrapeptase, a supposed miracle product for a range of chronic and illnesses.

He had taken serrapeptase for three days prior to when we noticed he breathing had become very difficult and he had developed only a slight cough. He was admitted to hospital and it was discovered he had congenial heart failure and a build up of fluid around the heart and lungs. The doctors said he was very lucky to be alive as his blood pressure was 243/96.

Since I have done some more research on this "wonder" product and this is what I discovered:-

"Hirahara K, Saitoh T, Terada I, Uno K, Nagai A, Kioi S, Arakawa M.

A case of pneumonitis due to Serrapeptase was described. A 69-year-old man was treated with Serrapeptase for 16 days because of common cold, then fever, nonproductive cough and dyspnea developed and chest X-ray revealed diffuse fine granular shadows in bilateral lung fields. Once the administration of Serrapeptase was halted, symptoms, chest X-ray abnormalities and laboratory data improved markedly. The fraction of lymphocytes increased in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid and OKT4/T8 decreased. Microscopic examination of transbronchial lung biopsy showed interstitial pneumonia. Both leukocyte migration inhibition test and sensitized hemagglutination test were positive for Serrapeptase. Based on these findings, we diagnosed this case as Serrapeptase-induced pneumonitis. PMID: 2693781 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]"

"Sasaki S, Kawanami R, Motizuki Y, Nakahara Y, Kawamura T, Tanaka A, Watanabe S.

Department of Internal Medicine, National Himeji Hospital, Hyogo, Japan.

An 84-year-old man was referred to our hospital because of fever, cough, and hemoptysis. The patient had acute respiratory failure (PaO2 < 40 mmHg) on admission, with diffuse interstitial infiltration and bilateral pleural effusion. The bronchoalveolar lavage fluid was bloody, and contained a high percentage of eosinophils (32%). A diagnosis of acute eosinophilic pneumonia was established, and the patient made a rapid recovery after corticosteroids were administered. When the DLST (drug lymphocyte stimulation test) was performed after the corticosteroid therapy was stopped, it was positive for serrapeptase, which had been prescribed for chronic cystitis for 3 months before the onset of the pneumonia. This was a case of drug (serrapeptase)-induced pneumonitis manifesting as acute eosinophilic pneumonia.

The lesson here is simple. If you are taking serrapeptase stop immediately.

It could save your life.

A very important point and its crucial to differentiate between herbs and extractions from insects, worms and spiders when trying to warn others!

This thread is very misleading and although you may be genuinely trying to help people you are also doing herbal medicine a great disservice which in turn could
be harmful to those who may now to pharmaceuticals rather than natural remedies. Never mind the how big pharma would jump on this opportunity to dis-credit herbs.

I am glad this stuff has some bad effects, I was beginning to wonder if it actually did anything. I am taking it and I suppose I am hoping for a miracle cure for minor and annoying chronic sinusitus/ear infection/head bunged up.

It does seem to be working but it's very gentle and slow. Perhaps we expect decent medicine to be unpleasant and dangerous.

Re: PIN: WARNING : SERRAPEPTASE DANGERS OF SELF MEDICATION WITH HERBAL REMEDIES
I've been taking it for 4 years. It is used in hospitals in Europe to reduce stroke following surgery. I have never had any side effects from this supplement, but the good things that have happened are:
-Reduced my cholesterol 20 pts in 3 months and has maintained it at 180 ever since!
-Improved my breathing capabilities and enabled me to walk upstairs with ease again.
Overall less joint pain.
-Improved circulation - I work a desk job.
-No more lightheaded episodes when getting up after long periods of sitting.
-No restless legs on airplanes!
-Has also helped to lighten some of the really dark vericose veins on my legs.

This is an enzyme from a silkworm, so there could be allergic reactions to an insect product just like anything else. If you experience trouble breathing, or dizziness you should stop taking it folks. Geez, I'm allergic to shell fish and echinacea, so I have to be careful taking supplements and vitamins to make sure these ingredients aren't in there, but for what I've seen...Serrapeptase is amazing and it works for me! I recommend it to people all the time!

I've been taking serrapeptase for 3 months. My gums bleed when I brush my teeth. My dentist commented on this. Also when I donated blood. I've been donating for 40 years, when they pulled the needle out my blood spurted across the room before they could put a cotton ball on it. I think it does thin the blood. I did stop taking it until further research.

Re: PIN: WARNING : SERRAPEPTASE DANGERS OF SELF MEDICATION WITH HERBAL REMEDIES
Fortunately for them the Coward who wrote the rubbish at the top of this blog is anonymous.. They are probably one of the 10,000 paid stooges of the pharmaceutical companies, who are retained to provide false information concerning natural products. The instance sited has bee shown to be a fabrication, based on the "supposition" of just one person. The proof is required before making false statements.

Serrapeptase is, with curcumin, the most potent of all natural products and is responsible for saving thousands, well, millions actually, of people from pain and in many cases, saving lives. Other than this false "report" there is not one single proven case of Serrapeptase harming anyone. And, one has to ask, why are there now an estimated 10 million pots a year - from collected data of 2010 - of Serrapeptase sold worldwide.

The coward remains just that. An anonymous, paid to be a mal informed coward. If, as they claim they had done any research, they would know the truth. But, perhaps as all cowards, the truth is not something they like.

Re: PIN: WARNING : SERRAPEPTASE DANGERS OF SELF MEDICATION WITH HERBAL REMEDIES
If you check with the American Poison control website, there has never been a case of death or even injury reported due to any supplements. This includes reports directly from hospitals. And that includes their annual reports dating back a decade.

Like any solution, it probably doesn't work the same for everyone but the point is.. it does work for thousands upon thousands of people for various issues. MOST of today's medications are synthesized versions of that which nature provides (right down to willow bark and aspirin) so one must let go of the notion that nature is out to get you.

It's not a miracle, it's a proven solution to a lot of things.

If your gums bleed try flossing 2x a day and gargling with hydrogen peroxide. The serrapeptase is simply thinking the blood. The bleeding is caused by inflamed gums, gingivitis i.e.. What else are you taking?

Re: PIN: WARNING : SERRAPEPTASE DANGERS OF SELF MEDICATION WITH HERBAL REMEDIES
100% agree that Serrapeptase is potentially dangerous depending on who is taking it.

It is not a herbal remedy it is an enzyme, but I'm not here to argue semantics. It is a blood thinner, and it does react with other medications, that is fact, there is no arguing that point.

[link to www.webmd.com]

There is some very brief and to the point information on it.

And for those of you who are well acquainted with computers, specifically web design, you'll notice the "company" website is a .info site (A.K.A. a scam site) A site that tries to feed off of the older generation who is likely to have one or more of the issues this "miracle" drug claims to fix. I won't go so far as to say that it does nothing good for the body as I'm sure for the right person, it could have a positive effect. However to say it's not dangerous for ANYBODY, is just plain ignorant.

[link to www.serrapeptase.info]

Even on their website they admit to ONE side effect, they outright lie about others. "Digestive Problems: It is not uncommon to get digestive discomfort or even pains from an unhealthy digestive tract when taking proteases."

They also state "There are no interactions with any drugs and that includes warfarin, statins and aspirin (which you should not need to take if taking serrapeptase)." Which you should not need to take if taking serrapeptase? Why would they need to say that I wonder? Because they're outright lying. Most people who have had chronic pain to a large extent, will realize right there that these people have no idea what they are talking about. This "Serrapeptase" is not going to single-handedly get rid of arthritis. And whether it is having a positive effect or not, it's more than likely that the average pain-sufferer is going to need to take a painkiller every now and again. And if you don't believe me, then why do people still suffer from arthritis? Do you not think that if it was that simple to get rid of, that this would be a very well known, commonly used medication? The reason it's not? Simple. Because it doesn't live up to it's embellished, outrageous claims.

My father came home with a bottle of this stuff, and the first thing I did was hours of research then followed up with a meeting with my specialist.

Again, I'm not saying the stuff is going to kill you, but you'd be just plain stupid to remain willfully ignorant and gamble with your body. Do your research before putting new substances in to your body.

Re: PIN: WARNING : SERRAPEPTASE DANGERS OF SELF MEDICATION WITH HERBAL REMEDIES
It is extremely unfortunate that the thread name is one of the first things that come up on Google when entering the word Serrapeptase.

I was turned on to it by a very obese man who was using it for among other things, to lose weight.

After 6 months he said it had worked and he was ready to tell his friends.

I have high cholesterol even though I am a vegetarian of 50 years. I do not take any medication but have altered my diet to try and help.

It has been this way for 45 years! Didn't get worse much worse or better every year I test.

I decided to read upon on SP and then, (about 4 years ago) this thread did not exists and there were very few negatives, although a few. Then again this could be the same as chemotherapy, any heart or diabetes, or other disease formula put out by the drug factories. There is an old saying.. Different strokes for different folks.. and it works here.

We are all different in every way, we think differently that's why we argue, we work out problems differently, that's why we have wars, we eat differently and we look after, or don't look after, our bodies, and that's one of the reasons we have the disease rate we have in the Western world.

If there is the same amount of positives as negatives for anything then that is roughly 50%. In my days that was a pass... so try it, whatever it is. But be fair and try it exactly as recommended for whatever yo want it for. Otherwise your fudging yourself so of course it more that likely will not work.

My obese friend started with 2 x 40,000 caps a day, then doubled it after 6 months to 2 x 80,000 a day without any side effect. He is not taking off the weight he would like but is so satisfied he is continuing although he has to skimp on things so he afford it.

I started my 2 x 40,000 every morning before breakfast about 4 years ago and the first couple of years my cholesterol test went down a couple of points, last year it was the same as the year before and that is fine as one of my side effects as absolutely wonderful!!

I have been the chiropractors best customer for 45 years. First with upper back pain, then the last 30 years with lower back pain.

I had tried everything for this but the chiro was the only one who allowed my to walk out of the place upright. I lived in US in various areas and in Australia so had a list of who is who in chiros.. Every one worked, altho' different methods were better for me that others.

So you wouldn't believe it would you?? My current chiro keeps calling saying where are you, and I have not had to use him for over 2 years! At times if I am doing a lot of lifting, bending and physical work then I do get sore, but a cold anything from the freezer for 30 mins will take out most of the pain. I am not bent over and in excruciating pain any more.

I was told SP ate away scare tissue and I guess that's what I had. So now, after so many years so far (touch wood) I am free.

Two years ago a 66 year old friend, got incredible pain in her foot, then leg then stomach over a few months. Her doctor stared with normal medicines which did nothing and eventually got her onto morphine which still did not stop it all but it did help.

He sent her to hospital and they did nearly every scan you could think of, MRI included but they couldn't see anything!

We searched for her as we watched the TV Show 'Mystery Diagnoses' hoping we could get help there but we didn't.

We then suggested to try Serrapeptase as it 'might' work.

She was scared and wanted to see her doctor, he said as he didn't know about it, he couldn't say anything to her. It was up to her as it seemed there were very few side effects effects.

So we sent her a bottle of 80,000 and suggest she take 2 every morning, like I did.

Se did and within 3 days the pain had gone!! This to me was even more dramatic that what happened to me.

It stayed away and she ran out of pills. She doesn't have internet and that is the only place as far as we know to get them in Australia. So by the time we got them to her about 10 days after she ran out, the pain was back. As soon as she started again, the pain stopped. This has happened for well over a year now.

She has had more tests, hospital visits, and they even went inside. They did find a problem with her Spleen and inserted something there, which did ease the pain, but did not get rid of it. She is still taking them with the same positive results.

I won't bore you any longer however I have since given them to all different types of people of different ages, with all different types of pain and in all cases the pain went. One guy didn't have pain but as a successful high power businessman had a lot of stress and always started his day exhausted. He took two 80.000 and now immediately starts each day happy and he says he sleeps better. Not sure how that works but it did and has for over a year.

So if you're looking for help. Be fair to yourself and at least try it. You may be surprised?

No it is not a miracle, but might help and when you need it, that is enough.

I have read every post on this thread...one point you ALL have missed is the dosage!

I am now taking Serrapeptidase.. a form of Serrapeptase. I have taken 600,000 SU a day for 20 days. That is a HUGE daily dose. But, as I had been misdiagnosed for fracture in my foot, forced to wear a boot and then as a result had nerve damage, I was NOT going to have cortisone shots or surgery the new DR recommended.

I researched Serrapeptase and thought I would try it. I immediately felt swelling go down, reduction of nerve pain, and could walk. It is making a huge difference..but I cannot stay on this high doasge. It is time to start reducing to lower levels.

All these other situations as stated cannot be used for any comparitive reason, if you do not know what dose they are taking. They could have taken very high does for three months. So.. it is important when making any health decision about this, check out the dosage first. Then you really have true data.

Re: PIN: WARNING : SERRAPEPTASE DANGERS OF SELF MEDICATION WITH HERBAL REMEDIES
I am just starting the S today, so looking at both sides of the issue more carefully. Whenever I start a new medication or supplement I work it into my system gradually, regardless of the recommended dosage. As I become familiar with the affects, I then start increasing the dose. No rush!!

Anyone reviewing the scientific information can see it is not harmful if you understand what it does when introduced into the body. You are your own best doctor, and using herbs, spices, drink remedies, foods, supplements can do things for you conventional medicines w/side affects cannot. I am a living example of that! :)

3 months ago:
I presented as a CHF patient, 300# male with diabetes, high blood pressure, and nitro-popping angina. I could barely walk a block, or climb my stairs.

Today:
Today I am 225#, power-walking 2 miles a day, go up the stairs with ease, off 40U insulin (because I kept crashing), I can breath again, my blood pressure is 103/51 and my Dr. has cut HB meds in half, my pulse 71, my cholesterol is 113 (normal runs 130-200). It was easy!!! All natural foods (90%), herbs & spices, and fish & chicken (10%), walk after every meal, No restaurants, no fast foods, no canned drinks. Just water & herbal teas.

I am trying the S for helping to clean out clogged arteries, varicose veins, and remove scar tissue on my heart and in my lings from years of smoking. Wish you well!!
