Hurricane Earl May Threaten East Coast
Earl is a hurricane and interests along the Eastern US better watch this one closely.

Earl should be in an environment that will support steady strengthening through the next 24-hours.

By tracking farther to the south than Hurricane Danielle, Earl has gotten caught in the atmosphere’s westward flow. That flow is pushing Earl across the central Atlantic at a rather quick pace.

Another storm system should eventually shift Earl’s track to the northeast, but Earl could first come quite close to the Atlantic Seaboard. That is particularly true for either Cape Hatteras, N.C., or Cape Cod, Mass., late next week then Nova Scotia and/or Newfoundland next weekend.

Those in eastern Long Island, New York should watch this storm track closely.

Even if Earl bypasses the Atlantic Seaboard, the system is expected to create even rougher surf and a greater threat of rip currents than what Hurricane Danielle is causing this weekend.

I've just looked at the computer models for that one as I live in southern New England and it looks like one or two models show it sucking up in our direction.

Hmmm...hope it gets pushed eastward.

Re: Hurricane Earl May Threaten East Coast
I'm watching the depression behind earl as well.
A three foot storm surge across Moriches Bay will reach Montauk Highway.
LIPA stopped trimming trees off our power lines years ago. If we take a direct hit prepare to have no electric power for at least a month or two.
We saw what a 50mph wind does this past winter.
Try doubling that.
The next few weeks will tell the tale.
I hope they miss us again, but we will get hit at some point.

I live south of Sunrise and this year everything is overgrown around here. I noticed that the towns are installing new street drainage around the island also. They are trying to prepare. It is only a matter of time.

+++1. My house (with renters in it) is in Newport, RI and I had planned on doing exterior paint touch ups next weekend. Oh well - let's think positively.
