Model/year ?

Unplug an ignition wire and stick a screwdriver in the boot.

Put it close to the engine block or any metal and have a helper turn the key/starter and see if there's spark.

If you got spark...a nice blue spark...it's a gas problem.

Undo a plug and smell for gas.....no gas...have your helper crank again and bang on the bottom of the gas tank with a rubber mallet.

Check fuses.
Check for Spark.
Check for gas.

If it spins unusually fast during the starter phase...you might have a busted timing belt.
