PETA People Eutnanizing Tame Animals (in a van)

Two on PETA staff charged with cruelty to animals

Two employees of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals were arrested on animal cruelty charges in Ahoskie, N.C., after investigators saw dead dogs being thrown into a grocery store garbage container Wednesday, according to the Ahoskie Police Department.

Ahoskie police conducting surveillance as part of a monthlong investigation reported finding 18 dead dogs in the container and 13 animal carcasses in a van registered to PETA and seized by authorities.

The cats and dogs were taken Wednesday from animal shelters in Northampton and Bertie counties, police said. Animals had been collected every Wednesday for four weeks, and carcasses had been found dumped in Ahoskie every Wednesday for about a month, Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh said.

Two veterinarians said they were told that PETA would try to find homes for animals taken from their practices.

Adria J. Hinkle, 27, of the 1600 block of Claremont Ave. in Norfolk and Andrew B. Cook, 24, of the 500 block of Tree Top Drive in Virginia Beach were arrested on 31 felony counts of animal cruelty and eight misdemeanor counts of illegal disposal of dead animals.

Both posted $35,500 bail on Wednesday and have a first court date set for today in Winton.

PETA is investigating the incident. The organization has suspended Hinkle, who has worked for more than two years as one of its community animal project employees in North Carolina.

Cook, who was hired only weeks ago as her assistant, has not been suspended.

“We are appalled if this actually happened,” PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said. “We would absolutely never condone this behavior.”

Newkirk said of Hinkle: “She’s the Mother Teresa of animals. She’s a very kind, decent person.”

PETA says it routinely picks up animals at pounds to have them adopted or, if necessary, euthanized.

Shelter officials knew some of the animals, which are not always “cute, cuddly, housebroken or small,” would need to be put down, Newkirk said.

Among the dead animals, though, authorities found a female cat and her two “very adoptable” kittens taken from Ahoskie Animal Hospital, veterinarian Patrick Proctor said.

“These were just kittens we were trying to find homes for,” Proctor said. “PETA said they would do that, but these cats never made it out of the county.”

When Proctor evaluated one dead dog for police, he discovered a healthy, 6-month-old mutt with a needle mark on its front right leg, he said.

He also identified what he called a “death kit” that police found in the van. It was filled with syringes and two drugs that only licensed veterinarians can have, he said.

“PETA will never pick up another animal from my practice,” Proctor said.

PETA had taken 50 animals to be adopted from Proctor’s practice over the past two years, he said. PETA has also taken animals from veterinarian James Brown in Northampton County for about a year, Brown said.

“When they started taking them, they said they would try to find homes for them,” Brown said. “Nobody ever checked on them” after the animals were taken.

When PETA employees took animals from Brown’s practice in the past, they would tranquilize them and take them away in vans, said Karen Cole, the animal cruelty investigator for the Northampton Sheriff’s Office.

Some animals were very sick or injured and otherwise would have been euthanized in Brown’s clinic, she said.

“Some animals have to be euthanized,” she said. “But the way this crowd did it is sick.”

This is a people problem. Idiots let their pets breed like rats and then just dump them some place. Most major cities kill ten of thousands of dogs and cats every year. Human low life ways.

Why would someone go pick up animals just to kill them. I wonder if the animals where being kept in small cages for long periods of time, and these poeple saw that as cruel.

SPCA head honchos here decided that no unadoptable (unwanted) pets were to be put down. The results is that the kennels are full of dogs that need constant care and will never find homes. The puppys and strays that used to be adopted now get dumped on the street because there is no room for them at the agency. Such concern (sarcasm).

If you ask me, most activist groups conspire to break the law. They have repeatedly shown that to achieve their goals, there is now length they will not go including criminal actions.
Up here in Washington, we are having an out break, again, or homes, new homes under construction, being torched by ELF´s. They usually wait until the home is close to completion before they do. What is appalling is the fact that not only are they destroying peoples hard earned money, they are driving up the cost of insurance for everyone, they are creating a bigger demand for forest products thus defeating their very goal of conservation. Complete and perfect morons!

PETA´s silence, hypocrisy

By: RICK REISS - For The Californian

Zoos have always been popular with the public. My family and I are longtime members of the San Diego Zoological Society. A trip to the zoo is the best way to see up close wild and exotic animals from around the world.

In just a day at the zoo, you can see critters from tropical rain forests to African savannas without risking exposure to Third World diseases and genocidal regimes.

While no zoo is perfect, most are nonprofit organizations striving to preserve endangered species through care and captive breeding programs.

The San Diego Zoological Society is the gold standard for the preservation of wildlife worldwide.

Despite this, extremists at the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals recently staged protests against the San Diego Zoological Society. PETA objected to the euthanizing of an elephant that had been transferred from the San Diego Zoo.

Two sidebar questions: Aren´t humans part of the animal kingdom? And where were the PETA protesters when Terri Schiavo was "euthanized" through dehydration and starvation?

Anyway, in 2003 the San Diego Zoo transferred several elephants to Chicago´s Lincoln Park Zoo. The San Diego-based elephant Wankie was recently transferred from Chicago to a zoo in Salt Lake City and was euthanized due to health problems caused during the transit.

PETA is now demanding the head of Doug Myers, executive director of the San Diego Zoological Society. No doubt this was a tragic aberration and folks like Myers are mortified.

Maybe the zealots at PETA have too much time on their hands, or more likely, they just have misplaced priorities. Why does PETA foam at the mouth over unintended tragedies in our American zoos, yet remain silent at the wholesale government-sanctioned slaughter of African wildlife?

Last month the Marxist dictator Robert Mugabe ordered the slaughter of all big game wildlife on Zimbabwe´s animal preserves. Since taking power, Mugabe has seized private farms and instituted Soviet-style land reforms. Once the breadbasket of Africa, Zimbabwe now stands on the brink of mass starvation.

The country of Zimbabwe is now cannibalizing itself. Government directives mandate the widespread slaughter of elephants, giraffes, lions and rhinos. Zimbabwe park rangers and soldiers are carrying out Mugabe´s orders.

Several elephants were shot in front of shocked tourists at Lake Kariba. They were later barbecued for Mugabe during a Zimbabwe independence day celebration.

Where is the outrage from PETA? Their silence is deafening.

While PETA demands the firing of Doug Myers, they remain quiet about the bloody dictator Robert Mugabe.

Equally outrageous are reports from the Center for Consumer Freedom that PETA put to death more than 10,000 dogs and cats at its Virginia headquarters. Apparently, it was cheaper to euthanize these former pets so that PETA could afford campaigns comparing your dinner plate to the Holocaust and to fund the domestic terrorist group Earth Liberation Front.

How´s that for hypocrisy?
