"Food prices up on wheat price rise

1 September 2010, Rome - Surging wheat prices drove international food prices up five percent last month in the biggest month-on-month increase since November 2009, FAO announced.

The FAO Food Price Index (FFPI) averaged 176 points in August, up nearly nine points from July, FAO said in its latest update on the global cereals supply and demand situation. The increase - five percent - brought the Index up to its highest level since September 2008, but still 38 percent down from its peak in June 2008.

The FFPI surge mainly reflected the sudden sharp rise in international wheat prices following drought in the Russian Federation and the country's subsequent restrictions on wheat sales. But other drivers included higher sugar and oilseed prices.

World cereals production

FAO's update said that the forecast for world cereal production in 2010 has been lowered by 41 million tonnes to 2 238 million tonnes from 2 279 million tonnes reported in June.

When I was a child(3-4 decades back) we had 3 yrs of grain reserved for any catastrophe for EVERY MAN, WOMAN, AND CHILD...Little by little in the last 15 yrs-

In 1996 when monsanto was allowed and started to open pollinate their experimental seeds-their sterile seeds, their plants with RoundUp ready in the DNA of the plant...it appears the grain reserves were being depleted and not refilled--bit by bit they left it more and more empty-NOW as they take farmers to court and steal the community farm due to some monsanto GMO/GE chit taking over fields and the farmer is penalized and prosecuted-know the truth-

There is NO REASON AT ALL why people should go hungry. There is plenty of land to grow wheat and other commodities if the governments would open that land to the public. Also, hemp would make a good crop for food.

Food scarcity is an historical political thingie. It's a useful tool to subdue populations. Burn the crops or just withhold the food supply. These buggers have learned well how to do that most efficiently! You'd better believe the rich of this world won't starve for a "food shortage".

Learn to use periods. If you're going to make all these claims, you would add a lot of credit to what you're saying by not also typing like a lunatic as well.

Where is there a real shortage though? The only places like this are arid anyway or the case of russia, have Muslims burning their crops away while Putin/Medvedev are out harassing british subs and other aggresive stupidity for no reason what-so-ever.

Russia had grain problems while Carter was in office here. The US sold them wheat, and almost immediately the price of bread/etc. here spiked and never fell back to where it was.

Expect same this go-round. Coupled with everything else, it ain't gonna be purty.
