Re: How to become a vegetarian?
I was a vegetarian for a year. It was a good experience and I developed a great respect for life. I started eating meat again but only after I began to feel that plants and animals were all living beings that deserved the same level of respect.

So now I eat everything and do what I can not to needlessly kill anything that I won't consume.

I missed steak particularly.

Re: How to become a vegetarian?
Eat plenty of raw bananas, apples, oranges, and grapes, and drink their juices. Fruits are the best part of a vegetarian diet. Also, eat plenty of peanuts, sunflower seeds, and other assorted nuts. Nuts are an excellent source of protein. Peanut butter sandwiches on whole wheat bread are great.

Being vegetarian does not mean you cannot eat prepared foods just make sure they don't contain animal ingredients or by-products. I enjoy ice-cream. You can also eat butter, so you can enjoy buttered toast with your coffee or tea in the mornings. There are also some cheeses made without rennet, which comes from the stomach of cattle. Tillamook is one company that produces cheese without rennet. Check the labels when you buy processed foods.

Re: How to become a vegetarian?
Veganism and vegetarianism is a terrible idea. I think the key is to just eat a balanced diet with lots of raw fruits and vegetables, seeds, nuts, and other knick knacks. Remember, raw is best.

Eat clean, organic meats, eggs and dairy products. Listen to your body. It will tell you when you need protien and fat.

Here is a little blog on diet that i wrote. It may or may not help you:

I am quoting myself to clarify that when I wrote that you can eat prepared foods without animal ingredients or by-products I meant that do not involve the killing of animals. This is why it is alright for a vegetarian to eat cheese and butter and drink milk because these foods do not require the destruction of the animal's life.

Re: How to become a vegetarian?
It is important that you get a balanced diet. Meat provides some essential vitamins so it is important to eat things that provide those essential nutrients. I belong to the SDA church who are mostly vegetarian, vegan--and some do not eat anything cooked. Some are lacto-ovo and do not eat any dairy products or any other animal byproducts.

Going vegetarian is a major decision. I went vegetarian when my six children were growing up and they all loved it!

One thing is certain. You will live healthier and longer. Seventh Day Adventists are some of the longest living people on the planet. Studies have shown that their lifestyle promotes not just long life--but a HEALTHY long life. I have personally known many who look better in their 90s than many I know in their 60s.

There is a wealth of info on the net.

I don't think quality and length of life has much to do with eating meat or not. I know a lot of seven day adventist and they don't look healthy to me.

I was only answering the OP's specific inquiry about a small list of foods for beginning a vegetarian diet.

We must do more to provide better treatment of animals. Need better legislation and inspection of farm conditions for animals.

There are lots of good vegan sites with lots of good recipes.
Start off by making normal foods without the meat or usejust a little meat. Lasagna made with just veggies is great!
They also sell these foods in most groceries now as well as health stores.

I stopped eating beef and pork many years ago. I don't miss it a bit. I still eat chicken, turkey and fish. But the beef and pork smells AWFUL to me now. It gags me to cook it for the kids.

If you wanna do hardcore "off meat" then watch some videos of slaughterhouses or check out a hog farm. That'll turn you against meat for sure!

Animals are born and put in jails where they live usually without sufficient space to even walk. After years until they have the appropriate size they are completely mad. The growing is done by hormones and antibiotics are used on them. Of course that shit goes to your own body and you can see how many people in the 20s just now go bald. This was not happening before.

And I did not even mentioned the problem with the emotional body. Every woo woo can explain you how the emotional of such animals are very low in vibration, that affects your body terribly, creating sickness added to the former physical motives.

Just don't eat meat. But it is your body, I care for mine and everybody do what they figure they must with theirs.

A "veggie" dog tastes just like a real hot dog.

Morningstar Farms hot dogs are really good! I ate Wolf brand Turkey chili on it and it was great. So you DON'T have to deprive yourself of "normal" foods just to be a vegan.

Check your local grocery freezer section OP and see what they offer. MS Farms also has great burgers and breakfast sausages! hf

Re: How to become a vegetarian?
Just don't eat all the soy "meat replacement" foods. Morningstar Farms and all that stuff. Soy is bad stuff. I was a vegetarian for over 5 years and ate a lot of that stuff. I think it has something to do with a lot of the health issues I have now. :( Not being a vegetarian......eating all the soy. Just stay away from it.

I, personally, never felt good when I was a vegetarian. It could be just the way I was eating or that my body requires meat or something. I don't know.

The other downside was that it made relationships difficult. People would invite us over for dinner and I'd have to tell them I didn't eat meat and it just made things difficult. I got tired of not eating meat coming before making friends.
