Theres many possibilities , whatever it is , its relatively close and we know it has a ''tail'' so a distant star is out of the question. Still I dont care much about it , all this ''universe's'' view is one big show. Thanks to the hijacked magNETosphere that will soon in part, gladly collapse. |

You are sayng northeastern, will look tonight if trees aren't in the way. Messes up my sky viewing but I'm surrounded by trees in this area. Edit: Probably won't see anything for a few days, the remnants of that storm in the Gulf is on it's way, but I'll look eventually. |

In a stunning way, Jupiter remains bright through September. It ascends the eastern heavens starting at 9 p.m. It will be high enough by 10 p.m. that you'll have no trouble picking out the planet. By midnight, find it higher in the southeastern sky." |

He/she says he/she is IN the northeast. Regardless, whenever there is planet appearing prominently in the sky during times when people are normally still awake you have these threads here. People talk about the "huge bright light" and it is described as being all over the sky. Once the planet is no longer visible, the threads end. It's been going on for years. |

If you think a thread is stupid, then why would you engage in it? The lack of civility here is beyond childish. There isn't much about our skies that HAS been explained, at least not to my satisfaction. Comparing each others' observations is ALWAYS a productive discourse to undertake. I will take a look tonight and report back OP. Thanks for the heads up. The dreamer and the dream One awakens inside the other Rediscovering universal truths |

He said it will rise in the east in the early evening, travel across the southern sky during the night and set in the west by late morning. "It will be the brightest of the objects in the sky this month," he said. Even in a light-polluted neighbourhood, he said you should still be able to see Jupiter from your driveway or yard this month. [link to timestranscript.canadaeast.com] Total OUtcast |

Path_No_Logical_Ire User ID: 774195 United States 09/07/2010 01:58 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | In August, I returned from camping 11 weeks in the Arizona desert, which is one of the darkest places on the planet. I could see horizon to horizon. The Sun, Venus, Jupiter, and our moon are definately getting brighter. This is obvious anyone who has ever spent much time observing the sky. Many nights in the desert the light reflecting from Venus appeared to flicker, flash, and blink. This with the planet 30-45 degrees above the horizon. One night in early June, six of us campers were commenting on how the light from Venus was so brilliant. The sky was very clear. As we watched Venus approach the horizon, it suddenly just disappeared. We were all amazed and saying WTF? Then after about 30 seconds it reappeared as if someone flipped a light switch. We all were flabbergasted and speechless. Also on several occasions, the entire eastern horizon started to glow. It was so bright it looked like the full moon was starting to rise. Then, it would slowly fade back to normal after 10-15 minutes. The first time I saw this was around the 4th of July. There is no way that any amount of fireworks could have caused this, by the way. Once I was looking at the sky and a bright light appeared out of nowhere. I blinked my flashlight at this light and a spark dripped off of it! Also a few times I got really bad headaches that seemed to coincide with rainbows around the Sun. Others are complaining of similar things. Things are certainly amping up, aren't they? Anyway OP, I'm not seeing anything with a tail on it yet here in NW NC. Lots of trees and light pollution here. I might take a drive up to the Blue Ridge Pkwy and have a looksy in the next few nights. Any other local GLP'ers who might want to join, speak up.
