The viewing area showed many short white lines ( similar to the fish swimming in earlier messages.) However.. my feeling is that this represents meteors or debris falling all over instead of flooding and fish. I saw no indication of water.

Well I tried to bold my new questions above but managed to mess that one up.. I need to start checking closer before I post.

I took a trip from my home on the Coast (vancouver) to the southern interior of BC this weekend to see my Grandfather who lives there and was quite startled to see the extent of the damage the pine beetle has done on the forests there. On the trip there were vast areas of dead and dying trees due to the beetle infestation. I had heard of this before but have not been there in a couple years. The damage is immense.

Out of interest when I got home I read about this and the "official story" is that climate change is to be blamed for the hugely inflated population of the beetles in recent years. Apparently the winters have been too mild to kill off many of the beetles and the summers have been quite dry. This beetle is not an introduced species but native to the area and normally just a regular part of the ecosystem. The beetles kill the trees as part of the beetles lifecycle, but normally it stayed in balance and not too many trees died each year.It was a balanced ecyosystem. But now the population is out of control and its being considered an epidemic here.

Can you tell me anything about what is happening here ST? Is it really climate change that is causing the blooming populations of the beetle? Are there other factors at play here? Are animal species unable to regulate their populations when the normal checks and balances fall apart? Would all animal species overpopulate if such balances are not maintained? Clearly the beetles are not the only ones unable to regulate their population to an acceptable level, humans are just as bad.

The difference seems to me is that humans have the reasoning capability that you would think they would know better, I don't think the beetle has been equipped with such abilities.

Seeing the forests devastated like that is really something though...very shocking. Not sure what this is going to mean for the ecosystems in the area though. Half of some of the mountainsides are covered in dead trees.

Just thought I'd report on that happening here in my corner of the world. I know I have a hard time verifying just how messed up things are getting sometimes. This was a big eye opener for me.
