Will my '67 Bronco still work?

yep

anything before 1975 will work

just keep it tuned up and the engine ready

it's going to be like gold

Until it runs out of gas.

Also, main intersections ware likely to be blocked by dead cars and trucks that were made with circuits.

So even if you had a working vehicle, you probably wouldn't get too far.

I was very curious what kind of car would still run after a EMP blast....also what exactly does an EMP do to electronics to make them inoperable? Anyone got info for me?

hmmmm, the batteries will be dead. unless you got a stick shift and help popping the clutch. hasnt anyone ever heart of a fariday cage? let me describe it to you, its bacically a cage that has earth grounds. usually rods or building ground. enemy of the state, will smith meets old dude, they go to his place, all his puters are in a faraday cage. your car is made of metal for the most part, my suggestion if you fear emp is to get a couple of ground rods from home depot and drive them into the ground where you park your car, then get some copper cable, i like copper, and then get some jumper cable type clamps, therefore when you park, you just clamp on the cables to the metal of the car. if your really worried a battery disconnect switch. therefore its less likely to be the cause of electrical probs. while the car is parked.
Christians have had to face and realize their own sins, and feel compelled to try and help others as well.

This chant of Holier than thou is wrong and is taught by others making you think what is cool or acceptable to them.

The thought of "believe as i do" is strongly in an unbelievers life, because they feel they will be ridiculed by their friends.

Every falsehood a unbeliver weilds, is merely a reflection of the obstacles that unbeliever must face from his very own peers.

Unbelievers are the true followers, they are dedicated to fear of what other people think of them.

And because of this, they are ashamed of themselves, but wall themselves up to feel comfortable and safe, assuring themselves with rationality and laughter.

Which is insanity!

the kind of cars that don't have any break lights, which you would inevitably get busted for. cops would chase you on foot.

Why isn't anyone looking at the results from actual testing in an EMP lab? Link is earlier in this thread - seriously folks go look at the data.....
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1063854

the data states they did some EMP tests on 37 vehicles ranging in years from 1986-2002. Running and not running. Some of the vehicles running stalled and the vehicles that weren't running had no major effect. etc, etc...

Do we know what type of EMP they tested on these vehicles? Do we know the make/models? How long was the duration of said 'pulse'? Was it a multi-pulse?

The majority of the tests on these vehicles were around the 25-30 kV/m mark. I agree that a small(microseconds) pulse of that magnitude wouldn't do too much other than cause some interference with the electrical systems of those vehicles. If this kind of pulse hit a more sensitive car like a Lexus or any of the newer vehicles (which rely on even more and smaller microprocessors), it would be a completely different story. I can easily see a 5-10 kV/m pulse causing a LOT more damage to a 2010 vehicle than whatever the hell they tested in the 86-02 range. This type of EMP would cause much more havoc with anything on the grid than most vehicles.

Now what do you suppose happens if we have another Carrington Event from that big orange thing in the sky when the electromagnetic field hangs around MUCH MUCH longer than that EMP???

a pre-1970 car may work...but...there would be many cars blocking the roads!!! so you should have a motorcycle handy and a mountain bike and parts...lol

In addition to your car, you might be concerned about your toilet working even though there are no electrical parts to a toilet.

The water purification plant runs on electricity. So the water tower won't be getting any more water. When it runs out, your toilet will have no water.

Everyone is going to need to go outside to take care of their business. Every poop. Every pee.

There just might be a bit of pestilence.

Oh, and no showers either. Smelly pestilence.

Don´t cars act as faradey cages anyways?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1093175

NO! if you can use a cell phone it's not a faraday.
A properly grounded faraday cage should flux 0 energy through it.

I always wondered what it would be like to sleep in a good farday cage room...

Re: EMP...What kind of car would work? What exactly happens to what in a EMP?
The old Mercedes diesel sedans (240-D and 300-D)once started did not need any electronics to run. I know because a couple of times I blew out the diodes on the alternator ... which then caused the battery to overheat and crack open ... and I still had to drive 200 miles home. Push started it down a slight hill (hot summer day so glow plugs not needed), popped the clutch (2nd), and voila engine started right up.

Those old Mercedes Diesels used a mechanical injector system and mechanical fuel pump so NO electricity necessary to run once it was started.

They stopped making the 240-D in 82 and I assume that was the same year they stopped making the same version of the 300 (300 had 5 cylinders whereas the 240 had 4 ... otherwise the same car, though there was a turbo version of the 300 also)

cars are less likely to be hurt as opposed to transmission lines and transformers

diesels will work the best

then its a roll of the dice at best
