I quit my $90K job six months ago to do this full-time. I'm averaging around $6K per week CASH, and my travel expenses are around $750 per trip. I'm letting all of you know this because there are many legit ways to make money other than slaving away for horrible bosses and companies. I am loving life and living large.

I don't have time to train anyone, besides, if you were any good at all, you wouldn't want to split profits with me.

I felt empty at my "job", but since I quit and have been able to make a decent living doing this, I'm actually quite happy and satisfied. I couldn't imagine ever going to back to work for someone else, doing a job that wasn't fulfilling to me.

so you are telling us it's possible to do what you do, but don't want to share your secret?

seems a little selfish to me.

although, that is what happens when you start making money like that.

Good for you! I don't do online poker - my strength is in reading my opponents and I can only do that if they're sitting at the table with me. I know some people are very successful at the online game, so again, congrats to you.

I never claimed to possess a "secret". I've developed a skill for poker and I've always had a gift for reading people, so over time I've turned into a shark. I win at 90% of the tables I sit down at. I started by reading all of Brunson's books, Helmuth's books, and I watch as much poker on TV as possible. It took me 7 years of playing and studying to get where I'm at today. There's your advice, sorry its not a get-rich-quick scheme - hard work and sacrifice.

I played/practised with play money during the first 4 months until I thought my game was good enough to make a profit out of it, before I decided to play with real money.

Good for you.
I play online thru the winter and take a break fishing thru the summer. Make enough so I don't have to work. Having said that, a word of warning to the fish out there - playing poker professionally is hard work, not a good idea for the lazy, stupid or faint hearted.

College kid,

I recommend you read at least four books written by top poker players before you even play free online poker games. Even the most basic strategies will help you as a beginner, then as you become more experienced, you can start to utilize some of the more advanced approaches to the game. As far as being able to read your opponents at the table, that's something you either have, or you don't, and you can only discover the answer to that by playing live games.

Common mistakes:

Bluffing too often, playing crappy cards, and not understanding the concept of pot-odds. I know that sounds basic, but its true.

Hey OP,

Play a lot of poker here in South Florida where they had no limit but you could only sit at the table with $100.00 at a time, but could pull as many additional 100's you want as you lose your chips.

When in Vegas last month, sat down at a 5-10 no limit with my measly 100 bucks and the guy next to me sat down with thousands!

How do you compete against stacks like that with just a few 100?
Thanks.
