Voice Chat Topic---Atlantis 11:00PM EST
What exactly was the lost city of Atlantis?

Was it a city full of advanced humans, alien, nephilim, or just a race of people who are now gone?

Many myths and rumors about this fabled city and what happened to this great city?

Come on in and lets talk about this famous subject.

Yep, I said the same thing yesterday.

Anyway, this topic doesn't interest me, as the only direct reference to Atlantis was in a poem by Plato (as far as I am aware). So it's not even a discussion-worthy topic, in my view.

Yes, Plato:

Timaeus and Critias, two of Plato's dialogues, are the only existing written records which specifically refer to Atlantis. The dialogues are conversations between Socrates, Hermocrates, Timeaus, and Critias. Apparently in response to a prior talk by Socrates about ideal societies, Timeaus and Critias agree to entertain Socrates with a tale that is "not a fiction but a true story."

The story is about the conflict between the ancient Athenians and the Atlantians 9000 years before Plato's time. Knowledge of the distant past apparently forgotten to the Athenians of Plato's day, the story of Atlantis was conveyed to Solon by Egyptian priests. Solon passed the tale to Dropides, the great-grandfather of Critias. Critias learned of it from his grandfather also named Critias, son of Dropides.

Will the chat be about the authentic description as done by Plato, or the new fangled morphed and distorted new-age theories as to what's hidden off the shores of the Bahamas?

In other words, will people there actually have read Plato?

Solon - Athenian traveler, poet, and lawgiver who lived from approximately 638-559 BC. According to Plato it was he who learned of the story of Atlantis from an Egyptian priest.

Yeah, I read all I could find on the subject about 20 years ago. I came to the conclusion that there was nothing to the story.

And like you said....too many 'new-agey' attachments have been added to the original story, which just reinforces my belief that it's really a non-issue.

Anyway...enjoy if that's what you're into.

Plato is awesome, but I don't like the new-age crap that is tagged along to the original version. Some do tie it in, somewhat.

There is much symbolism in what Plato suggests, throughout all his writings, much is there.

This is not what I am "into", I'm not really "into" anything. I like to not get "into" things on the most part. I like being an outsider, lol!

I may pop in, (to listen to chat) perhaps...not sure yet.

Timaeus

Serves only as a brief introduction to Atlantis, a preface.

The majority of the writing actually deals with a description of the creation of the world and explanation of natural phenomena. Page 2 is the only part of Timaeus which references and describes Atlantis.

Critias

Provides a detailed description of the lost island and its people as well as information about the ancient Athenians.

The priests of Egypt told Solon the ancient story of the lost continent of Atlantis. 5 Solon translated the story of Atlantis into Greek verse, thinking that it would be a very good thing for the Greeks to know.

==
Finishing the story of Atlantis proved to be too great a task for Solon in his old age. Instead, as he wrote:

But now the powers of Beauty, Song, and Wine,
Which are most men's delights, are also mine.

Re: Voice Chat Topic---Atlantis 11:00PM EST
I like Edgar Cayce's information on Atlantis. It was a civilation much like ours today, just more advanced technologically. Ignorance is what destroyed Atlantis. This IS where the story of Noah's Flood came from and has been recorded world-wide in every single ancient civilation that has ever existed. This IS the story of the Fall Of Man. The fall was in "consciousness". How is this possible? Look at the facts. If our grid systems world-wide took a shit, how many of you could rebuild the grid system, or rebuild a computer without the electrical system we currently enjoy? How many could build a car, a plane, a house from scratch, or even grow their own food? When Atlantis was destroyed because of stupidity and ignorance and the last of the island sank beneath the seas, there were a few people the had "somewhat" of knowledge on how these things functioned on the island. Over time that knowledge was lost and forgotten, turned into today's mythology stories, the people turned into the "gods and goddesses" of these myths. They were actually just surviving peoples from Atlantis with some memories or knowledge of how that civilation existed.

Also I do not "knock" all new age material related to Atlantis for my own personal reasons. Did they use crystals for various reasons? Yes. Most people do not realize that quartz crystals are used in similar ways today! They are used in our televisons, radios, computers, even in our health technology to power xray and mri machines. These are just a few of the many ways we today use quartz crystal!

Also there were two distinct groups of people. Those that lived in "tune" with nature and the natural order of things, and those that wished to control every aspect of life. The exact SAME things going on in our world today! The indigenous and native tribes world-wide try to live "in tune" with their surroundings, and the world govs. that wish to control their surroundings. And we both view each other as savages! LOL That cracks me up!

Then there are the in-between people who enjoy the conviencies of technology and yet are drawn to a more natural way of living. There are MANY people right here on glp that fall into that category, myself included. I enjoy my computer, my phone, my tv, and yet grown my own crops (pesticide and gmo free)! The computer age once again has brought KNOWLEDGE into the world. And unless you lived in a library 24/7 half of the things we can look up on a whim would have been lost! including knowledge on how our own way of life in each of our countries operates politically. We would not have the knowledge of news as it happens around the world and would have to rely only on the news that does manage to make it on television. How about archeological finds half way around the world? Earth changes as they happen, most never making the nightly news as we know it. Suppose we "lost" this ability?

That is what I believe happened to Atlantis. And I also believe we are on that same path....
