not as typical as in colorado. as a decades long resident of both states, i can tell you that high winds are more common in colorado than florida.



having livedin Florida for over 15 years,and having only traveled the rockies to Grand Junctionand back once, I caan only tell you the typicallity for FL with any accuracy,my point wasreally that 50 mile winds are fairly common, not comparably to another state


while it stands to reason a mountanous state might have more wind than an ocean state,the point is debateable


the real questionis why the hype?

I have friends in Boulder. Getting some info from them in an hour on things. They say the sky looks like hell there!

What are the wind speeds going to be 100 miles inland from Hattaras? Up to the hwy 95 area?

65, hmmmm...is that sustained? Can mobile homes handle that? My best friend and her family have a doublewide in a big open field about 15 miles E of 95 and Roanoke Rapids right near the VA/NC state line. Wondering if she should get out.


Gusts, sustained half that. Should be fine, similar to a regular thunderstorm front.

i live in fort collins, 40 miles from Boulder, and i just saw a fire truck heading west, not sure exactly where he was headed. was just several minutes ago.

Kevin is right mobile homes are ok in gusts of up to 65mph....sustained HALF...meaning 32mph

I am in Boulder right now, skies are clear. I can see a bit of smoke up in the hills but it is nothing like how it was on Monday.

This seems Biblical to me.

I've seen well over 140mph gusts at our local ski mountain. It becomes one of the windiest areas in the country...

Woohoo! Everyone knows what a blast it is up at Eldora in the wintertime.

If the wind was going the other way they wouldn't need lifts, you could just be pushed up the hill.

Yeah, a few years ago, it blew one of the chairs off of the lift while they were closed. Gotta love it up here :)
