50 mile winds?

thats a typical thunderstorm here in FL

judgement cometh

not as typical as in colorado. as a decades long resident of both states, i can tell you that high winds are more common in colorado than florida.

having livedin Florida for over 15 years, and having only traveled the rockies to Grand Junctionand back once, I caan only tell you the typicallity for FL with any accuracy,my point wasreally that 50 mile winds are fairly common, not comparably to another state

while it stands to reason a mountanous state might have more wind than an ocean state, the point is debateable

the real questionis why the hype?

why the hype? haven't you heard? 169 homes destroyed. most destructive fire in colorado history.

I have friends in Boulder. Getting some info from them in an hour on things. They say the sky looks like hell there!

[link to t.co]

Warning: Kevin has already dangerously stated in another thread that mobile homes will be okay in wind gusts this powerful. This is not true. Do not rely on his opinion.

Listen to your local officials and make sure you have a battery operated radio in case the power goes out. If they say evacuate, take this seriously.

Stay safe.

Thread: Hurricane Earl Cat 3 : Hurricane warnings issued : EVACUATIONS : Updates (Page 28)

What are the wind speeds going to be 100 miles inland from Hattaras? Up to the hwy 95 area?

near 65 mph

65, hmmmm...is that sustained? Can mobile homes handle that? My best friend and her family have a doublewide in a big open field about 15 miles E of 95 and Roanoke Rapids right near the VA/NC state line. Wondering if she should get out.

Gusts, sustained half that. Should be fine, similar to a regular thunderstorm front.

 Quoting: Um, Huh?

Kevin is right mobile homes are ok in gusts of up to 65mph....sustained HALF...meaning 32mph

Do you live in a mobile home? Are there trees near by? Ever have one come through the roof and hurt someone you love?

Btw....are regular thunderstorms "65mph....sustained HALF...meaning 32mph" as Kevin says. I'm pretty suspicious of a weather person making that statement.

Hope no one gets hurt. That would be sad.

yes. what's bad about the winds is that this time there is a raging fire for them to push around in a populated area.

"Wind gusts of as much as 60 mph destroyed three mobile homes and damaged another Sunday in the 33000 block of Torrence Road in eastern El Paso County."

This is an older example of wind gust damage. I could find several more, but I just want everyone to stay safe.

Move along nothing to see here. We now return to your regularly
scheduled Fox news hour, this weeks program sponsored by Big Oil
And Big Coal.

Yep.. nothing going on with the sun to cause that global warming. Move along.

lol, during the winter (as long as it decides to last...) we get wind up here on the peak to peak highway that equates to living for weeks on end with hurricane force winds. I've seen well over 140mph gusts at our local ski mountain. It becomes one of the windiest areas in the country...

Woohoo! Everyone knows what a blast it is up at Eldora in the wintertime.

If the wind was going the other way they wouldn't need lifts, you could just be pushed up the hill.

Yeah Canis, looking at a few web cams today it looks like the fire is chilling behind Sanitas and Dakota Ridge. Sounds like the Slurries are gonna try to go for at least another hour. Once that night time wind kicks up though, it's gonna be horrible...
