The guy said the 5 things for good health are:

-Garlic
-Olive Oil
-Cinnamon
-Chocolate
-Honey

Honey is a natural anti-septic, definitely good for getting rid of bacteria and viruses.

Check out John Robbins new book "Healthy at 100". He talks about three groups of people who were studied because of their longevity. They were in different parts of the world, different ethnicities, different environments but they all ate little, mostly vegetarians, and lived in locations that required a lot of physical exercise just to get around. They routinely lived past 100. When our diet was introduced, their kids got obese and died like Westerners. They had no cancer until they started eating like us. Change your diet and save your life. It's that simple.

thers only so much usable land, and you would have to clear alot of the natural environment.

hmmm, and where are you today in your mind? Animals we eat take way more land to grow them that it does to just eat the food ourselves first without processing it thru an animal. Do you have any idea show much food and WATER especially it takes to make a pound of hamburger or steak, vs a pound of anything else? Find the Movie "EATING" on the web and buy a copy. The water used for cattle is huge, including that to grow the food on thru the processing it for consumption.

Our rain forests are being cleared and destroyed to feed food animals.

After doing mind-clearing work with regard to food and eating compulsions the body's true and simple needs and wants are coming through without all the static.

This body wants to eat very simply, raw veggies, fruits. I purchased a juicer to make it easier.

Sprouting viable organic seeds yields a plentiful indoor crop. Wheatgrass (esp. the einkorn variety) juice eliminates the almost societal enforced need to eat all the processed foods presented in our supermarkets.

Yes, it does take a lot of work to change one's mind, and re-set one's body.

Did you see the video, "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead"?

Yes, I did, and it's very inspiring. I saved a copy on my computer to watch on occasion to remind me to eat more raw foods and less junk. I haven't ever tried juicing, but I might start - just as an experiment. I wish the juicers weren't so expensive. I went to Bed Bath and Beyond and the one they carry is one of the cheaper Braville brands - it was still $150. I hate to spend that kind of money on something I might never use and just takes up space. I normally eat oatmeal with honey (will now try w/cinnamon also)for breakfast and then a fresh fruit, yogurt, and coconut milk smoothy for lunch and then a regular dinner w/meat.

I am on a mostly raw food diet. It is turning my health around. But I also believe in eating meat. We did not evolve this far as a race, being a bunch of vegetarains. Just know your meat source. Don't buy meat raised in feedlots. Terrible for you, and terrible for the environment all the way around. Eat game meat as much as possible. Go fishing. Etc.

from article:

In December 2010, the 107-year old Heesters announced that he had quit smoking for his then 61-year-old wife: "She should have me as long as possible".

so he smoked till he was 107 then quit and died with 108

I don't think it's necessarily a vegetarian/meat eater issue so much as it is a processed foods issue. People who are vegetarians tend to be more aware of what they put in their mouths and eat less processed, transfat and chemical-laden foods. Meat eaters tend to eat meats which aren't the healthiest choices, such as bacon, hot dogs, pumped fowl, and steaks drenched with sauces (not to mention the super-sized order of fries with every meal).

Common sense dictates that we should eat mostly raw or partially steamed veggies, lots of fresh fruit, and lean meat which is not processed (salmon, bison, organic chicken, venison, etc.), whole grains and healthy fats.

My parents were farmers and rarely ate anything processed or mass-produced and lived long lives. I think a lot of us try to eat healthy, but those between meal snacks just seem to sneak in and who really needs a Snickers bar or a Dunkin Doughnut?

Except many cows graze on land that isn't suitable to agriculture. I see them grazing on public land when I hunt. Nobody is irrigating that land. That land wouldn't be used for growing corn.

Meat production taking up too much resources is BS vegetarian propaganda.

I didn't take it the sameway that you did...I took it as a general-statement that all the animals of the world take-up a huge amount of space and natural-resources in the wild to survive. Not necessarily in cattle raising for food production. I think She was arguing the point to the poster that made comment of too many people on the planet eating away the resources, etc. Then animals would still exist in the wild eating the same amounts of food, water and taking-up space and populating?

Have you seen the irrigation systems used for food crops? It's huge, but people have to eat, after all. The rain forest is being cleared, but more to make room for planting of biofuels than anything, although cattle do run these new ranges. "An explosion in demand for farm-grown fuels has raised global crop prices to record highs, which is spurring a dramatic expansion of Brazilian agriculture, which is invading the Amazon at an increasingly alarming rate."

No, it is an old line from vegetarians that we could solve world hunger if everyone was a vegetarian. It is absolute bollocks.

Some of these people actually want to outlaw meat consumption.

Amusingly, these are often the same people reintroducing wolves into areas that kill livestock....and eventually people.

Cows eat the crops thus are further down the food chain. The toxins accumulate. It also takes far more crops to feed the cow than to just eat the crops ourselves.

someon posted the stats once, it was huge the number of resources cows consume from grains to water it takes to produce beef.
