What happens when a book is burned?
As somebody outside of religion, when a book is burned, i ask why?

That why turns into a curiosity about the book being burned, what is in it that would make people behave that way?

In my opinion this much attention on the book is a GOOD thing, as it will make people read it.

What really cemented me into an atheist was when i actually sat down and started to read the bible for the first time.

I would be dead against destorying ALL religious books that exist, because historically i think they are important.

But this is not what is happening here, this is not fahrenheit 451, this is not about corrupt goverments destorying knowledge to dumb us down, we have more information available than ever with the internet, lets be honnest.

This is a huge advertisment for ISLAM, people who are open minded will read the Koran and THINK, Jeeze this is even more full of bullshit than the BIBLE, these muslims are not exotic, mysterious and deserve respect, they are a bunch of complete fuck-tards. they need harsh criticism like christianity and the catholic church does.

My 2 Cents.

Some book burners say that it's spiritual thing, a sacrifice to an a angry God or something.

In the old days, in the Middle Ages, it was believe that if a heretic would survive a burning, then he was innocent anyway. Of course nobody survived the burnings.

Some books were also believed to be ''unburnable'' in the medieval period, i.e. a Bible who refused to catch on fire because it was holy or something.

Trial by ordeal is a judicial practice by which the guilt or innocence of the accused is determined by subjecting them to an unpleasant, usually dangerous experience. In some cases, the accused was considered innocent if they survived the test, or if their injuries healed; in others, only death was considered proof of innocence. (If the accused died, they were often presumed to have gone to a suitable reward or punishment in the afterlife, which was considered to make trial by ordeal entirely fair.)

I appreciate your comments but i dont see how any of this is relevant, except maybe that the 'Malleus Maleficarums' influence was partly responsible for people and books being burned.

Books and people were burnt long before Malleus whatever ... was thinking of Joan of Arc for example.

Re: What happens when a book is burned?
The point is this is not the 14th century. There are plenty of rational people watching this, it is not about eradicating a threat to the dark ages catholic church.

Would anybody be against anti fascists burning Mein Kampf? at the aniversary of the end of world war 2?

I understand where people are coming from, historically book burning is seen as a very dangerous corrosive and aggressive act by christianity.

But my point is that, all this will do is make more people read the koran, and i mean ACTUALLY READ the Koran.

A lot of people are about to find out just how much BULLSHIT is in that book.
