After watching it over and over again I see an impact further back behind the dark roof line with an almost simultaneous gas release in the foreground followed by the explosion. It looks to me like the meteor impact was about 100 feet further back. The impact shock could well set off a nearby gas rupture.
 Quoting: Intruth

Ditto, what Intruth said.

A meteor impact "behind" the dark roof line would explain the vertical line flare on the camera lense that occurs prior to the gas line rupturing and the release of gas occurring that caused the rocks to fly up and provide the spark necessary to ignite the gas into a tower of flame.

The stones are the debris from the gas line rupturing prior to the explosion. The line is under pressure, the pipe blew out and the pressure thru up the debris. you can see the cloud of gas following the debris, the when a spark from the debris ignites the gas, you can follow the ignition of the gas cloud. This pipe was over 50 years old and had no corrosion protection, similar to over 65% of the gas lines buried throughout the US.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1045299

Yep, I see the debris arching up and out from far left.
But there is a ray or beam that seemed to sweep center left to hard left, then the debris popped.
That is the weird thing here.
Hmmm

It seems AP and other videos cut the far left out of their videos.

The crater would be consistant with a meteor. Other pipelines that blow have been more round for a crater.

I am sure it was a meteor, and the video here [link to www.ktvu.com] shows something coming a few seconds before the earth blows away and it becomes a fireball.

The timing would be right for the event.

I see explosion and then fire.

Could someone have sabotaged that gas line?

Look at the glare that goes across the camera around 6-7 seconds in before the asphalt and chunks come up.

Hhmmnn...had to watch this "glare" over and over again. The OP maybe right. It can't be the cars' lights but something coming from the sky.

I agree. It's unusual, not from another car and happens just before stuff gets kicked up. After dust starts flying then there's the explosion. Sure, it's only seconds, but why would dust and debris stir before such a massive explosion? Wouldn't the natural gas pipe just suddenly blow a huge hole and not stir up a little dust on top first?

I didn't notice the dust and debris you were talking about but the suspicious reflection of a "GLARE" coming from above. Plus there was a fireball seen by some witnesses before the massive fire. Moreover, San Diego newscaster reports about a meteorite seen by many people in the sky on the same day.
 Quoting: NINTI 1082073

I played the video back again and noticed the dust and debris you were talking about.I was lazy and sleepy to check it as it was the middle of the night here in my country. I say Wowwww! You are soooo right! I love posters who are so observant and see little things like these. The dust and debris plus the reflection are proofs that something fell from the sky. Great job to the OP for posting this. smile_hear bump

I see the glare across the sky, the debris field, the dust and then the fireball.

What bothers me is the strange circular distortion in the video at that part of the field of view, and the cedar/fir tree that withstands several seconds of gas flames without igniting.

The people driving "into the fire" are actually moving down hill into that underpass.

All in all a good catch. I wonder if the film has not been created out of the real deal and recorded images. That circular distortion is odd. I have watched many hours of gas-station video and know for there to be a circle like that is not normal.

The light is clearly from the reflection of a car on this video. Look at the beginning of the footage for couple seconds right before AP logo and blue part show up on the bottom of the screen. There is a car driving by and light is reflecting on the side window all the way up to top screen.

However, if you look at the guy at the pump reacting way before explosion took place, then you can tell he must have heard something. Something really loud that he turned back ackwardly to see what the hell is going on. There were many reports on fire ball in the sky right before the explosion so meteor is not completely out of question yet.

The September Perseids meteor shower is not to be confused with the stronger event that happened in August. Last year this meteor shower had decent outbursts, but this can’t be anticipated for this year. Meteor showers are very erratic so the best way to find out how lively they are is to observe. The September Perseids overlap the δ-Aurigids and are generally seen in the same area because the shower’s radiants are so close to each other.

This shower will peak on September 9

At the 10 second mark of video a hail of space rocks located to the far left at the middle of the screen flurryb down then an explosion....

No wonder witnesses heard a loud airborne whoosh.

Don't believe me check it out...

It seems to be a smoking discoid object leaving the area of explosion.

And if something from the sky impacted a building, the debris would also be thrown in the air. What about that can't you people get?

If it takes forensic analysis of a video to find a meteor then there is no meteor.
