The initial explosion sent the gas pipe itself hundreds of feet away from the crater..

[link to trilogymedia.com.au]

..and then the gas ignited.

The only question is:

"What caused the initial explosion?"

Hint:

"Da plane.. Da plane.."

Another hint:

"Jet Oooh Oooh Oooh Oooh Oooh Oooh Oooh Oooh Oooh"

The stones are the debris from the gas line rupturing prior to the explosion. The line is under pressure, the pipe blew out and the pressure thru up the debris. you can see the cloud of gas following the debris, the when a spark from the debris ignites the gas, you can follow the ignition of the gas cloud. This pipe was over 50 years old and had no corrosion protection, similar to over 65% of the gas lines buried throughout the US.

That is not true. I live in the area. Those lines are 30 years old or less maybe.

I don't know how you get a meteor strike out of this. I simply see some preliminary dirt fly into the air prior to the explosion. I assume that came as a result of preliminary venting just prior to the big blow.

^^^

This.... the rocks go up as the pipline ruptures and fall back down... now gas is spewing into the air, but hasn't yet ignited... then... FIRE!!!

No proof of meteor here, sorry to say.

 Quoting: BackFromTheDead

Preliminary venting? This isn't a volcano. Wouldn't a gas pipeline explosion go from a state of absolute stillness (gas leak) to total combustion? It's not like the gas built up and kicked up that debris. As soon as that gas ignited (which it would have to do to explode) the after effect would be instantaneous. There wouldn't be a few seconds of debris moving about. Gas + Ignition = Major, immediate explosion and not something that vents. At least that's what makes sense to me. I wouldn't strike a match in gas fumes and think I had time to step out of the way or observe the what it disturbed for a few seconds first, kwim? Instant boom.

I still lean towards meteor but I agree w/pp, an investigation can't be thorough without finding out if a plane was involved. Remember in the original thread there was a poster there saying there were military choppers hanging out on the horizon watching? Anyone ever follow up with that?

I see explosion and then fire.

Could someone have sabotaged that gas line?

Look at the glare that goes across the camera around 6-7 seconds in before the asphalt and chunks come up.

I am a professional videographer, and I know all sorts of things can cause glares.

Remain objective here folks. It all comes back to numerous witnesses who saw something in the sky before hand. Maybe it was a meteor, maybe it was a plane, maybe it was a bottle rocket that went astray and ignited an existing leak.

All I am saying is you can't pick and choose your facts if you want to discover truth about things. People saw something, and there has been no solid, official, explanation of the cause of the blast. We all understand what fueled the blast. There is no debate of a ruptured gas line here. The question is WHAT ruptured the line?

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 976618

I don't believe it is glare at all.

The video begins with one car driving to the left. No glare

A car then drives to the right. No glare

The first of 3 cars drives to the right and it begins to GLARE at 7-8 seconds just as it passes. The other two cars pass in an uneven interval afterward, and when you look at the video frame by frame the intensity of the 'glare' as it has been called does not change.

The glare certainly cannot possibly be off the cars due to no repetition of the glare despite passing the same spots at uneven intervals.

What you see at 7-8 seconds is in my oppinion something moving across the sky. It is either on fire and producing alot of light so perhaps a plane, or burning up on entry into the atmosphere and glowing hot so perhaps a meteor.

The way that light, not glare moves across the screen when watched frame by frame is more akin to watching a car drive past at night with its headlights shining constant in the distance. This is not glare.

Max life expectancy for these pipes is 40-50 years. They are in the range. Now, add to that:
Thread: With the accumulative action of many magnetic disturbances pipeline corrosion is significantly accelerated

from: SPACE WEATHER EFFECTS CATALOGUE
[link to www.esa-spaceweather.net]
2.4.3. Pipelines

Buried oil and gas pipelines are prone to corrosion, which may occur at points where an
electric current flows from the metal into the surrounding earth. Therefore pipelines are
covered by an insulating coating. The insulation is, however, not perfect, and particularly
problematic are possible holes in the coating. To avoid corrosion, pipelines are equipped
with a cathodic protection system (Von Baeckamn et al., 1997) which tries to keep the
pipeline in a negative potential of roughly 1 V with respect to the soil. Different harmful
processes may take place if the negative potential becomes too large, so the adjustment of
the potential has to be careful.
GIC flowing along pipelines are accompanied by voltages between the pipeline and the
Earth (Boteler, 2000; Brasse and Junge, 1984; Campbell, 1980). GIC are not hazardous
regarding corrosion issues but the pipe-to-soil voltage variations related to GIC can easily
exceed the cathodic potential making the protection thus invalid
(Gummow, 1999). Today’s coatings have orders of magnitude higher resistance than those used earlier. This
results in larger pipe-to-soil potentials, thus significantly increasing the risk of corrosion
at defects in the coating.
How much pipe-to-soil voltages induced by space weather effects
really increase the corrosion rate of a pipeline is still a somewhat open question, and
estimates about times before the wall of a pipeline is seriously damaged vary in a wide
range
(Martin, 1993; Campbell, 1978; Henriksen et al., 1978; Gideon, 1971). Besides a
direct contribution to corrosion, geomagnetically induced pipe-to-soil voltages are a nuisance
when measuring cathodic protection parameters and making control surveys
(Barker and Skinner, 1980). The measurement results may be completely incorrect and
thus lead to erroneous conclusions.

Similarly to a power system, the magnitudes of GIC along a pipeline network and of
pipe-to-soil voltages depend both on the geophysical situation and on the details of the
network. Model calculations supported by measurements of geomagnetic variations can
be performed to reveal the most problematic regions in a pipeline network (Boteler and
Seager, 1998). In general, the pipe-to-soil voltages are larger at in homogeneities of the
system, such as ends, bends and branches of the pipeline, changes in the material or size
of the pipeline, or variations in the Earth’s conductivity.
The adjustment distance that expresses
the length of the area in which the inhomogeneity affects is typically in the order
of tens of kilometres. Long pipelines experience larger geomagnetically induced pipe-tosoil
voltages than shorter ones.
Therefore, pipelines are sometimes electrically interrupted
by installing insulating flanges in series with metallic pipeline parts (Camitz et al., 1997).
Such a procedure may really decrease the largest voltages appearing but at the same time
increases the number of inhomogeneities. Therefore, all effects of insulating flanges have
to be carefully analysed, and the final solution is a compromise.
To avoid the problems caused by geomagnetic storms to buried pipelines, the industry
has to be aware of the risk produced by GIC and induced pipe-to-soil voltages. A possibility
of forecasting geomagnetic storms will help avoid making control measurements
during times of a high probability of disturbances.
A forecast of a magnetic storm also
gives a reason to check that the corrosion protection systems are in full operation.
In general, space weather risk has not been investigated as much in pipelines as in power
systems. Recent investigations (Pirjola et al., 1999) containing improved tools for model
calculations are improving the situation, and at present an international “pipeline-GIC”
study with eight companies involved is being finished.

That would be a laugh. All this predicted doom, and we end up getting taken out by electric solar doom setting our gas lines off like roman candles.

I see the vertical line you are refering too. I guess I attributed it to a reflection of light off of the passing cars.

I would agree with you if ALL the cars had this effect, but they DONT.

This only happens ONCE and that is directly before the disturbance of the soil and THEN the resulting blast.

Almost had me convinced until I studied the first 10 seconds intensely.

AT 08:00 seconds, the driver of the parked car in the foreground gets out of his car. In doing so, he opens the driver side door which, is facing what should be to the south. The sun is off to his West. Given that scenario, and this is easily confirmed by the shadow patterns, when the driver opened his door, the sun to the West reflected off of the parked car's door or window bouncing light into the camera lens causing the flare.

Watch the motion of his door opening and the line/glare which is believed to be the meteorite. The door movement and the glare movement are in perfect time as well as in the same direction.
